2:26PM Jess McGuire | When we read this morning that the one thing standing in the way of Vanessa Amorosi forcing her way back into the hearts and minds of the Australian music purchasing public was the nation’s current mild interest in Delta Goodrem, well, we couldn’t help but condescendingly mutter a quick “Suuuuuuuure…” to ourselves.
Vanessa Amorosi will have to wait a few months before she gets to shine again.
There is industry speculation that her new album has been postponed for fear it would be overshadowed by Delta Goodrem’s latest effort.
The forgotten pop star had been due to release her comeback album, Somewhere in the Real World, this month, but it has been postponed until February.
The official word from record company Universal was that Amorosi had
decided to do some more work on it, but industry sources attributed the
delay to the media and marketing blitz surrounding the release of
Goodrem’s Delta.
It also reminded us of our favourite one liner from Brendan Shanahan after the 2000 ARIA Awards. You’ll have to excuse us as we are mustering this up purely from memory, but if we’re correct, he quipped that watching the smile on Amorosi’s face during the ceremony eventually turned to a frown of disappointment once she realised she was going to be walking away empty handed after being nominated for a massive six gongs was akin to witnessing “a slug being dropped into a bowl of salt”.
