Highlights From Last Night’s EG Awards

10:29AM Jess McGuire | For some reason, I am still alive. But my head hurts. Here are some highlights from the evening in no particular order. &middot Julia Zemiro hosted, and was as charming as you would expect her to be. Kicked off proceedings with the line “The best thing about being the host of RocKwiz is being asked ‘What’s it like being the host of Spicks and Specks?’” – she had the audience in the palm of her hand. &middot Little Red played. Drummer Taka is quite literally the happiest creature on the planet when he’s playing music. If you can YouTube footage of them live, see for yourself. More »

The EG Awards Are TONIGHT!

4:44PM Jess McGuire | Did you remember to vote? If so, Defamer Australia will be on hand this evening watching the goings on at the Prince Of Wales as award after award is handed out to the cream of the musical community. Will there be a secret guest? Will famous rock stars get too drunk and do embarrassing things? All I know for certain is that I will be there, camera in one hand, dictaphone in the other, waiting to capture some magic. Unless I get drunk and distracted, in which case – I apologise in advance. I’m not sure if tickets are sold out, but if they’re not – or if you like buying tickets from scalpers – this is where you need to get to this evening. PS: Looks like Cilmi didn’t win Best Female… the speeches are saved! PPS: Remind me to tell you about a MEGA FAMOUS BAND who have sold MILLIONS who are doing a very very secret gig in Melbourne next week. More »

It’s Time To Vote For The EG Awards!

11:35AM Jess McGuire | Is it that time of year again? Goodness me, it appears it is. The Age has opened voting for this year’s EG Awards, and many of Defamer Australia’s favourites (including The Drones and Lilith Lane) are up for awards. Hurrah, etc! You can vote by heading here. The awards will be handed out on the 4th December and I plan on being at the ceremony. You should try and get there too. Two years ago, the surprise act at the end of the night was BONNIE TYLER!!!!! And she sang Total Eclipse Of The Heart!!!! AND IT WAS THE BEST NIGHT EVER!!!!! So I hope to god organisers have a similarly awesome ace up their sleeve planned for this year’s line up of live performers. Note: As opposed to what happened at this year’s ARIAs, it’d be nice if someone other than Gabriella Cilmi won something. Consider that while you’re voting – if only for the sake of the speeches.
