Thankfully disease and connectivity issues appear to have been solved so we can now put that horrible lonely Monday behind us and get on with things!
And what lovelier a thing to (belatedly) start our week with than a brand spanking new song from handsome troubadours The Basics, eh? It’s a very different sound for them, but I like it. Have a listen – and marvel at the band going rudey nudey in the video clip! – to ‘With This Ship’ and see what you reckon.

12:00PM Jess McGuire | As promised, here’s a heads up on just one of the many Bushfire Benefit gigs happening around the country, and I’m more than happy to plug them on here because it’s for a very, very worthy cause.
The Corner Hotel will be hosting a rockin’ benefit show on Sunday 1st March. Featuring acts like X, Rocket Science, Even, The Basics, and Gun Street Girls (Dave Larkin of Dallas Crane’s new outfit) and MC’d by the lovely and forgiving Julia Zemiro (I say forgiving because I drunkenly informed her the other week after the RocKwiz gig at the Myer Music Bowl that I once wanted her dead so I could steal her job, but “now I think you’re tops, so, you know, you can live” and she was nice as pie about the whole thing), it’s going to be a corker of a show.
And of course I will be there prancing about like a mad woman, so it will be nice for us both to hang out if you make it down there. Do you like how personal I’ve made this? Yeah. Just the two of us. Like old times.

The Basics Are Gonna Be Played On Californication!
11:38AM Jess McGuire | Defamer Australia favourites The Basics are about to launch a tour with Japanese rock’n'rollers The Bawdies, and as The Basics are renown for being a phenomenal live act, you’d be stupid in the head to miss them.
Two thirds of the band – you can call them Tim Heath and Kris Schroeder when you scream out their names at gigs – are devastatingly handsome red heads who make the bitches swoon with just a strum of their chosen stringed instruments (gingers are the new black, discuss) and the remaining third is the ever adorable skin-hitting (that means he plays the drums! I don’t mean in the Shoop rap sense!) Wally “Gotye” De Backer, and together they are Captain Planet… Planet Rock.
God. Even I don’t know what I’m saying anymore. Oh yeah! I remember – the dudes just informed their Facebook fans of the following thrilling update.
Exciting news – Sunday night’s episode of Californication will feature The Basics version of the Sonic’s classic ‘Have Love Will Travel’ and will play during a rather prominent scene – you’ll see.
Let me guess… Hank’s sexing something or someone he shouldn’t be?

1:38AM Jess McGuire | Well, we might be overstating things a little. Melbourne band The Basics may not be resorting to posting nakie YouTube clips of themselves in order to increase ticket sales during their overseas jaunt, but they are indeed uploading short clips now that they’ve begun a touring Japan.
We particularly enjoyed this one (via Syms Covington, who also rather liked it)
Topless Wally De Backer (aka Gotye)? The Triple J lady listeners will go mad for it.
Also, The Basics’ track “Lookin’ Over My Shoulder” has suddenly and unexpectedly become one of the most played songs on our iPod in recent weeks. Do go and request it on your favourite wireless station, eh?
