Sam Sparro Takes Time Out From Sledging, Festivaling, To Work With Lindsay Lohan

Australian Post Posted by Clem Bastow at 9:24 AM on July 30, 2008

Sam "Big-Mouth" Sparro.jpgAfter having a go at Madonna and then getting reasonably good reviews for his Glasto performance, expat Aussie Sam Sparro has decided it's time to make the jump to plaid: he's going to work with Lindsay "Remember, She Had A Career Once, You Know, Before She Made Leggings With Kneepads" Lohan.

No word on whether he will wear that ridiculous top hat while he's doing it.

"Working with Lindsay is an interesting proposition. I've always been a big fan and I think she's cool," said Sparro, currently riding high on the music charts with his single Black and Gold.

"I've never met Samantha Ronson but I have met her dad and her sister Charlotte when I was working with Mark at Coachella. They are a great family.

"I'll be heading over to Los Angeles and New York in a couple of weeks to start writing for Lindsay and a few other artists. I'm really excited."

Well, there you go. Well done you, Sparro. It's a pity his song is pretty much pants, otherwise I'd probably be more excited than I am about all this.

So, er, go Aussie!

ED: You know, there are times where Clem and yours truly don't agree, and this looks like one of them. Although my beloved Bastow may hate Sam Sparro's single, I wish to speak up and say I fucking love Black & Gold, and I am quite thrilled he'll be working with Lindsay. Having Completed The 'Slag A Legend' Stage Of His Career, Sam Sparro Takes On Glastonbury

Australian Post Posted by Clem Bastow at 9:42 AM on July 1, 2008

Sam "Big-Mouth" Sparro.jpgThe reviews are in from this past weekend's Glastonbury Festival, and while the Herald Sun would have you believe it was all about Gabriella Cilmi, it seems that expat and big mouth Sam Sparro was in particularly good favour with the Brits.

He was also on the bill at the legendary music fest, and here's what The Guardian's Alex Needham had to say about his festival slot (ooh err!):

Dress code: Sam Sparro is wearing a frankly outrageous ensemble consisting of skin-tight black and gold (geddit?) diagonally striped leather trousers and a multi-coloured vest. His three backing singers, meanwhile, wear tops bearing the letters "S.A.M."

In a nutshell: Sam Sparro is in ebullient form having scored one of the year's biggest hits with Black and Gold, and has the audience eating out of his hand. Easily engaging with a crowd that spills out of the dance tent, he mixes his own material with house classics in an exuberant set which perks up Sunday evening at a point where many might be starting to flag.

He scored 8 out of 10 on the Guardian's Glasto scorecard; given that Jay-Z copped 9 out of 10 and current indie darlings MGMT got only 6 out of 10, that's a pretty good result for Sparro.

Because, you know, our press only really care about Aussie expats once they've been bigged-up overseas.

Sam Sparro Wonders If Mouthing Off At Madonna Might Extend His 15 Minutes

Australian Post Posted by Clem Bastow at 2:42 PM on June 4, 2008

Sam "Big-Mouth" Sparro.jpgNot having listened to much commercial radio since overexposure to it had me saying "come back after the break for your chance to win a Hyuuuundaaaaii" in my sleep, I was unaware that Australian reject expat Sam Sparro was doing quite well in the charts, both here and in the UK.

So well, in fact, that his track Black & Gold, possibly a tribute to his favourite budget supermarket brand food, was being whispered as a giant-killer that could hold Madonna off the top spot. Alas, poor Sam, it wasn't to be, and he's done what any electro-popper in his situation would do: started ranting bloody murder about Madge.

"Madonna is wretched at the moment - absolutely vulgar. Put it away," the young artist told UK magazine Attitude.

Despite topping the local charts, Sparro's spray got personal, claiming the superstar had resorted to desperate measures to maintain her career stronghold.

"You're not young and sexy any more," he railed, telling the interviewer Madonna had been "thoughtful and mature for a while and now she's chucked it away in a desperate attempt at being hot again. It's a bit vile."

The 25-year-old also let fly at Madge's looks, saying: "I definitely think she's had some work done - like a recent facelift."

Wow, awesomely diplomatic there, Sam! I bet no one thinks you're a bad loser at all! No way in hell!

Actually, I did hear Black & Gold in the car today - or at least, I heard approximately 23 seconds of it before my ears started bleeding. She may be "vile", Mr Sparro, but at least her song is better than yours. See you on VH1's One Hit Wonders Of The '00s - Where Are They Now? in thirty years!
