Is Inglourious Basterds Bad For Jews?

6:04AM Brian Moylan | We’ve read a lot of reviews of the new Tarantino movie, but our favourite so far came out today in Tablet. Basically it says the new movie would be better if Tarantino was Jewish. More »

We’re Still Unsure: Is Inglourious Basterds Going To Suck?

5:02AM Brian Moylan | We’re Tarantino fans for sure, but a WWII movie about Nazi-killing Jews? We’re a little sceptical, and the critics aren’t helping our confusion. More »

How Violently Does G.I. Joe Suck?

1:30AM Foster Kamer | G.I. Joe wasn’t screened for critics because Paramount wanted to market the movie to Middle Amerikkka without being judged. Critical reviews are finally coming in. They’re going to be bad, it’s just a matter of how bad. And how bad? More »

Lady Gaga Is Better Than The Pussycat Dolls

6:46PM Jess McGuire | Herald Sun music guru Cameron Adams today published a review of the Lady Gaga/Pussycat Dolls show at Rod Laver Arena which informs us that Ms Gaga is much better live than the “herpes in a halter neck” gang. I think this is like saying it’s better to eat a bowl of vomit soup rather than a shit-filled sandwich, but I am very stupid and probably need to reassess my dislike of Lady Gaga’s shtick. More »

The Drones Get Reviewed By Pitchfork

10:22AM Jess McGuire | Do you know what Pitchfork is? It is a magical website where music is reviewed within a decimal point of its life. If the review is good, bands try to mention this fact on the cover of their latest release by helpfully placing a sticker on the cover of the CD which quotes the review. If the review is bad, bands try to hide their hurt. Something Jet must have done when Pitchfork’s review of Jet’s second album was simply a YouTube video of a monkey pissing in its own mouth. More »

Watchmen Reviews: ‘Maybe It’s Better to Grow Up’

8:21AM Defamer Hollywood | So how is this biggest-movie-ever Watchmen superhero flick? Well, not so good if many critics are to be believed. Should have been kept in holy reverence as a comic book (or graphic novel or whatever).

‘Watchmen’ Review Shocker: Geeks Will Love It!

2:15AM STV | While its writer denies he’s reviewed anything, the unofficial first take on Watchmen is live at Time. The verdict: It’s destined for fanboy greatness. Who knew? More »

Lost ‘Siskel and Ebert’ Review Elevates ‘The Hills’ to Ranks of the Critically Acclaimed

5:25AM STV | A memorial rummage through the Siskel and Ebert At the Movies archives over the weekend turned up a never-before-seen clip making their program’s recent dissolution all the more lamentable. To wit, behold the critical duo in their prime, debating the merits of the then fledgling MTV series The Hills. “The movie paints a tragic picture of mindless, aimless, violent and destructive behavior,” Ebert notes, nevertheless endorsing the saga as a trenchant read of contemporary youth culture. His late partner Gene Siskel concurred, clearly challenged by the “hyperrealism” of its internecine 20-something Hollywood warfare and Spencer Pratt’s complex douchebaggery; in their squirms and haunted eyes, the two bring an emotional resonance likely to stop miles short of new At the Movies hosts Ben Lyons and Ben Mankiewicz. And so what if Siskel and Ebert’s insights sound suspiciously like those from their 1995 review of Kids? Greatness makes its own coincidence. [Songs About Buildings and Food via Fimoculous] More »
