Logies Frocks! Out They Go At Never To Be Repeated PRICES!!

Australian Post Posted by Clem Bastow at 9:34 AM on May 6, 2008

Kate Ritchie logies.jpgIf you're one of those fans who just can't wait to see what your favourite Australian star wears to the Logies, you'll likely be excited by this news: about 90% of the Logies frocks - which are borrowed for the night - are on their way back to the designers.

However, those wishing to snap one up and wring out the sweat of their idol may be disappointed: not all the dresses are going back on sale. But that won't stop them from sniffing under the arms looking!

A few will be kept in designers' stores for customers to try on, but a handful - including Lauren and Patti Newton's frocks - will hit clearance stores at a discount.

Fans of Sibylla Budd can walk into designer Gwendolynne Burkin's Fitzroy store to try on her near-$4000 dress.

But it's not for sale, and the best her fans can do is order one the same, as a few did for her flowing, heavily beaded oyster-coloured dress by Gwendolynne for last year's AFI Awards.

The $3000-$4000 Mariana Hardwick dresses worn by Lauren and Patti Newton will be part of a Logies gowns display in the designer's Sydney Rd, Brunswick, store by the end of the week.

Home & Away fans who were hoping to wear Sally's beautiful skin, sorry, dress, will be able to, but only once the $1299 Lisa Ho dress ends up in stores in August.

Forget this year's frocks, though - I'm still trying to find out where I can get my hands on Sandra Sully's Technicolour dream dress from last year. And to think those scurrilous rumourmongers say she likes a bong or four...

Defamer Australia At 'Guys & Dolls' Opening Night

Australian Post Posted by Clem Bastow at 9:36 AM on April 7, 2008

Guys & Dolls.jpgHere at Defamer Australia we like nothing more than reliving our rapidly fading memories of high school musical stardom getting a bit of culture, so we were happy to accompany a Defamer Australia pal to the opening night of the Melbourne season of Guys & Dolls. Yes, the 1950 musical that is quickly becoming as dated as Bye, Bye Birdie and should probably be banished to the am-dram circuit is back, again, for no reason - really - other than an impressive bit of Australian musical theatre stunt casting: to wit, enough leading ladies to stun an ox! Magda Szubanski in drag! (Disturbing!) Lisa McCune's Boston-Irish accent amongst sticking out like a sore thumb amongst the Bronx drawls of '40s New York! Not much else!

However, Defamer Australia being the way we are, we were there as much to resist singing along to Sit Down You're Rockin' The Boat as we were to assess the guest list - which we did, and how!

Read on for this round of red carpet "celebrity" spotto!

La Correspondent Demonstrates 'Being A Knob' Prerequisite For 2Day Fm Employment

Australian Post Posted by Clem Bastow at 9:35 AM on February 26, 2008

kj-bg.jpgWe can't say we're massively surprised to find this out, but it seems that 2Day FM's LA correspondent, dispatched to cover the Oscars red carpet and press room, was a bit of a f--kwit and ended up riling up both the stars and those covering the event in a fell swoop for Australian entertainment diplomacy.

Michael "Sydney" O'Neill challenged Kyle Sandilands for employee of the month status by acting like a cock while carrying out the sorts of hilarious stunts we've come to know and love 2Day FM's programming for, including trying to piss off Daniel Day-Lewis - who had just come offstage following his There Will Be Blood win - with dumb questions about how he "relaxes" (no, we don't "get" the joke, either).

After several attempts at dismissing the repeated line of questioning, an explosive Day-Lewis told O'Neill it was "none of your f...ing business" what he did in his downtime.

Earlier, O'Neill was turned away from the Kodak Theatre red carpet by event organisers for defying the strict black-tie dress code - which is applied to all working media - as well as the A-list stars.

The 2DayFM staffer had arrived wearing jeans and an Akubra, but was sent back to his hotel to change into black pants before being allowed to rejoin other media representatives for the post-awards press conference.

"All of the media were explicitly told in advance that it was black-tie for everyone in the media room," a Los Angeles insider told Confidential yesterday "with tuxes for the guys and floor-length gowns for the ladies".

"When he came back he was whinging about it being like school," the source said.

Michael "Sydney" O'Neill, could you be the new Quentin?

We would have particularly enjoyed this story if it involved Day-Lewis dishing out to O'Neill a fate similar to the one suffered by preacher Eli in Blood, only using his Oscar instead of a bowling pin.

Alex Perry Brings His Knowledge Of Filipino Hookers To The Oscars Coverage

Australian Post Posted by Clem Bastow at 12:35 PM on February 25, 2008

knPERRY_FASHION_narrowweb__300x435,0.jpgWhile Defamer is running our own live Oscars blog, we're not immune to cruising the web to see what "the other half" are doing with cinema's big day.

During our travels via the Vogue Forums we were most pleased to see that NineMSN had given our favourite Australian designer and hilarious Australia's Next Top Model judge ("Those eyebrows have been raped") Alex Perry his own live Oscars red carpet arrivals blog.

Feel free to browse by yourself, but we've collated some of Alex's more considered moments of serious fashion commentary for you here:

11:51am:Calista Flockhart and her grandfather She's looking a bit scary..

11:40am:Tilda Swinton It's a great big bag what's to LIKE. Don't put any makeup on you albino!

11:35am:Jennifer Hudson sHE just unleashed a white gladiator dress, unfortunately the white jersey couldn't contain her boobs, they look like white pointers one to the east and one to the west.

11:32am:Helen Mirren I can't believe I'm seeing a dress that is red satin with white lace, it's not friggin christmas honey and she looked so amazing last year, but this year she looks WRONG.

11:25am: Kimora Lee Can I also add she looks like a Phillipino hooker.

11:05am: John Travolta has a droopy suit on and too long sideburns, slightly Amish looking.

We're willing to go out on a limb here and request that someone gives Alex a proper fashion commentary position at either Vogue or Harpers Bazaar, stat!

The Australian fashion world needs more talk of white pointer boobs, Amish sideburns and Filipino hookers.

Will Joan Rivers Terrorise Red Carpets For VH-1?

Posted by Defamer Hollywood at 7:00 AM on September 21, 2007

joanmelissa.jpgMany awards show viewers still long for the heyday of the late '90s, when unsuspecting stars would recoil in terror upon being accosted by Grand Frock Inquisitioner Joan Rivers, followed closely behind by loyal henchspawn Melissa, one finger held to her ear as she received instruction on the proper pronunciation of "Benicio Del Toro." Alas, after being bumped from their now-legendary E! gig, and banished from the TV Guide Channel kingdom for rumoured "difficult" behaviour, the only place Emmy watchers can turn these days for a Rivers fix is online, at VH1's Emmys With Joan. Gold Derby's Tom O'Neil wonders if the pair's seemingly shameful banishment to the slums of the blogowebs doesn't perhaps bode well, suggesting the network might take a short break from finding Flavour Flav the skank of his dreams to secure Joan and Melissa a spot on the red carpet:
