Kanye West Is A Big Fan Of Chris Brown & OJ Simpson.

4:26PM Jess McGuire | Sometimes I think Kanye West is a bit wrong in the brain. He’s a quotable chap, to be sure. His response on his blog about looking rather old and grey on the cover of Vibe Magazine was hilarious – “I’M ALL DOWN WITH BEINGS IN MY 30′S BUT DAAAAAAAAMN!!!! THIS IS SOME BENJAMIN BUTTON’S SHIT!” But other times he sounds like someone a bit touched in the head who happens to be missing that incredibly important ability to realise when it’s a good time to shut the hell up. Here’s an example – he recently did a stint on VH1 Storytellers, and perhaps rather wisely they’ve decided to cut out a few of his more moronic comments. A little later, West asked the crowd, “Can’t we give Chris a break? … I know I make mistakes in life.” He was referring to R&B singer Chris Brown, who was arrested on the night of the Grammys on suspicion of beating his girlfriend Rihanna. Microsoft Songsmith Continues To Molest Some Of Your Favourite Songs

4:16PM Jess McGuire | Remember when we were talking about the sheer awfulness of Microsoft Songsmith, and the horrible things it had done to songs like Roxanne, Runnin’ With The Devil, and Wonderwall? Here’s everything you need to know about the back story. People are still feeding classic songs into the program and uploading the hilarious results onto YouTube. Would you like some more? Of course you would. What else have you got going on, eh? Firstly – Marvin Gaye’s “I Heard It Through The Grapevine” Surprisingly rockin’, no? And now, Radiohead’s “Creep”. More »

After Pwning The Music Industry, Radiohead Are Pwned By Their Fans

10:24AM Clem Bastow | Presumably Radiohead hoped there would be some fans of theirs who wouldn’t take advantage of their new album’s “pay what you feel” gesture, but it seems most Radiohead listeners are brazen freeloaders. Which, when you consider that most self-confessed Radiohead fans spend their time living in fifteen-room sharehouses and eating nothing but Two-Minute Noodles and sunshine, is probably not really all that surprising. Yesterday, about a third of fans decided to pay nothing, according to The Times daily, citing a poll of 3000 people who bought it from the website. “I chose zero, but maybe if I had a chance to chip in $10, after I hear it if it’s great, then I would,” said one identified fan from Australia, shortly after downloading the album. The average price chosen was £4 ($9.10) – half the typical album price on online music retailing leader iTunes of around £8 – although 67 people paid more than £10 ($22.80), according to the poll. You can still pick up a “hard copy” box-set for about £40, but really, isn’t that option now reserved strictly for suckahs? Word has it James Blunt was considering giving his next release away for free, but no one wanted it anyway. More »

Radiohead Pwn The Music Industry

11:03AM Clem Bastow | We’ve never been particularly big fans of Radiohead but must admit that their latest move is worth applauding: they’re going to auction their new album to fans, who can pay whatever they like for it – and the band will probably still make as much money as they would have had they still been signed. Music observers said the British five-piece, which is no longer signed to a record label, is able to sell directly to its fans because it has such an established support base. “They are the first band to put their money where their mouth is,” Gareth Grundy, deputy editor of Q music magazine, told Reuters. “I think other bands that have been similarly successful will look and, if it is deemed to have worked, will do the same.” Does this news mean we may actually see Thom Yorke… smile?
