10:47AM Jess McGuire | I cannot help but feel it would be remiss of Defamer Australia to miss out on covering Channel Ten soap Neighbours’ attempt to compete with rival Home & Away’s pink cred just because it is an obvious and slightly pathetic grab for attention that makes me a little sad inside. 2:39PM Jess McGuire | Is Holly Valance promoting something at the moment? A mildly catchy pop song or a television show or something? Because she’s been in the news more in the past couple of days than she has in the past year. I’m not complaining, she clearly likes delivering quality sound bites in interviews which helps me do my job, but I am still a bit unclear as to why she’s turning up in the press all of a sudden.
Not that I care very much. I am more interested in the fact that Holly has spoken out against Neighbours! Can you even BELIEVE that? Talk about biting the hand that fed you a few years back!
Ex Neighbours star Holly Valance has attacked the TV series which catapulted her to international fame. The Melbourne stunner – who made her debut as Felicity Scully in 1999 – says the Ramsay Street show has seriously deteriorated since leaving seven years ago to embark on a pop career.

Holly Valance Not Much Of A Neighbours Fan These Days

More » Harold Bishop Looking Forward To Breaking The Cycle Of Abuse
12:36PM Jess McGuire | While Neighbours fans will be mourning the loss of Ian Smith, the bespectacled heartthrob of Ramsay Street who has been playing the role of Harold Bishop since before World War II, the man himself is looking forward to getting the hell out of Dodge… and by “Dodge”, I obviously mean “Erinsborough”.
Neighbours star Ian Smith says he is glad to be leaving the long-running TV soap and hopes it will bring an end to years of teasing and abuse.
More » Dicko Set To Make An Appearance In The Idyllic Fatty Boombah-Free World Of Ramsay Street
4:29PM Jess McGuire | Australian Idol judge Dicko is going to be making many of his British friends jealous with news he’s making a cameo on Neighbours shortly. His role? A “hard-nosed, tough-talking music executive”. But of course.
“I don’t know why they cast me in that role,” the Australian Idol judge joked. His character is involved with the budding music careers of the roles played by Dean Geyer and Caitlin Stasey.
Good god. Does that mean we can expect more actual singles from the fictional characters appearing in the shops?
Dicko goes on to reveal his secret weapon when it comes to remembering his lines. More » Neighbours, Did You Just Go There?
6:46PM Jess McGuire | I do hope the sensitive Ernie Dingo isn’t watching Neighbours right now, because if he is – he’ll be feeling mighty rankled. Why? Because – and please, please correct me if I’m wrong because I am still shaking my head a little – there was a rather Sandilands-esque gag used on screen.
Didge*, some troubled chick who is blonde, and Rachel were just performing as cheerleaders (also: is this standard for Aussie Rules games in the suburbs?) at a local footy match between the Erinsborough Dingoes and Another Team.
Their cheer actually included the line “A dingo’s got your baby!”
NEIGHBOURS WTF?
*To the person who sent me a picture of “Didge” being double-ended – it’s not her. But thanks for the porn! More »
JetstarGate: Our Source Speaks Out, Claims Jetstar Employee Was “Polite And Professional”
12:15PM Jess McGuire | Will this story never die? Not while there’s a chance of it winning me a Walkley, which is extremely likely considering it involves swear words, a Neighbours star, and minimal “investigationing” (that’s the word journos use, isn’t it? Ryan Shelton is a proper reporter, yeah?) on my part.
I contacted our source who claims to have witnessed Carla Bonner getting unreasonably surly toward a Jetstar flight attendant (something Carla Bonner denies) and urged him to speak up and tell me the truth. Had he embellished the story a little? Had anything not come across correctly in his first version of events, and is it possible Carla could rightly believe she’d been misrepresented? I mean, we may be a playful “online blog”, but we have some sense of decency. If anything needs to be clarified and publicly amended, we’re more than willing to do it.
Our source has just gotten back to us and admitted that there are a few things he’d like to change in his story. Gripped? Why wouldn’t you be! It’s JetstarGate! More »
JetstarGate: Carla Bonner Says Defamer Australia Report “Not A True Account Of What Happened”
9:51AM Jess McGuire | Following on from yesterday’s troubling report of a verbal spat between Neighbours star Carla Bonner and a Jetstar flight attendant, the Daily Telegraph has helpfully contacted the actress to see whether our tipster Daniel’s version of events was an accurate account of the tongue lashing or whether it was, in fact, total bullshit.
We would have called you ourselves to do the same thing, Carla, but we don’t have your number! Also, I’m on pre-paid and phone calls can really eat in to the thirty bucks, you know?
Here’s what the Daily Telegraph had to report after their no expense spared investigation into the incident.
Neighbours’ Carla Bonner was barred from catching a weekend flight for reportedly letting fly with a Gordon Ramsay-style spray over baggage. The angry actress, who plays Steph Scully on the Channel 10 soap, was intending to travel from Melbourne to Newcastle for an overnight trip with personal trainer boyfriend Jason Shepherd before she was grounded by Jetstar staff for her diva outburst at a check-in attendant.
The mother-of-two, who yesterday denied the particulars of the exchange…
Wait, what? It actually happened? Good lord, what an unexpected turn of events. I’m now gripped by this story, and we’re the ones who broke it in the first place.

Carla Bonner Won’t Take Any Attitude From Jetstar Flight Attendants Regarding Hand Luggage; In Related News, Jetstar Won’t Take Carla Bonner
2:42PM Jess McGuire | Defamer Australia tipster Daniel sent us in this highly enjoyable story regarding Neighbours star Carla Bonner, who plays Steph Scully-Hoyland-Whatevs on the Channel Ten soap, donning her cranky pants on a recent Jetstar flight. He claims he saw the whole thing unfold right before his eyes, so it must be true! Daniel, you wouldn’t lie to us, would you?
NB: No guarantees this story is true.
Carla Bonner was recently denied her flight with Jetstar, after verbally herassing a male flight attendant. Apperently there was a dispute over oversized luggage. When the flight attendant told Bonner that her handluggage was too big, and that he had to check it and put it into the measuring unit, she replied “How about you put it up your arse?”
ZING!
But wait, there’s more!

‘Neighbours’ Is All White On The Night: Report
9:44AM Clem Bastow | Here’s a report that should by rights surprise no one who has watched an episode of Neighbours in the entire history of the soap opera’s, er, history, but which is nonetheless disappointing considering the world we live in (i.e. one that isn’t solely populated by WASPs and the occasional swarthy Italian): Neighbours is too white:
Australian TV soap Neighbours in which Kylie Minogue first found fame has been branded “too white” by black and Asian viewers in Britain.
A report by the nation’s racial equality chief found many ethnic viewers felt were under-represented in some of Britain’s most popular shows.
Neighbours, which is screened on the Five network, and the BBC comedy The Vicar of Dibley starring Dawn French were singled out for being “all white”.
Other popular soaps including the BBC’s Eastenders and ITV’s Coronation Street also came under attack for including stereotypical characters such as Asian shopkeepers and black single mums.
They’re pretty much on the money – the only non-white characters I can remember on Neighbours (and I’ve only recently given it up after years of faithful viewing) were a single Asian mother giving birth on the side of the road one time, Conor’s ex-stripper Asian babymama, and, er, anyone else got anything?
Oh and there was Lil and her family, who were what, Serbian? And they went down in a plane crash. Good track record, Neighbours! More »
