Little Feat – “Long Distance Love”

12:44PM Jess McGuire | I had a tops weekend avoiding the mud at Meredith by staying in town, DJing up a cheesy storm until the wee hours at The Retreat, and then sharing the last beer left in the fridge at my darling friend Talei’s house and playing heaps of old records using something called “vinyl” (I think it’s pronounced “vin-ell”, WTF). Anyway, I cannot think of a more perfect song in the world to listen to at the end of an evening with rain pelting away outside than “Long Distance Love” by Little Feat. I’d only ever heard (the astonishingly gorgeous, by the way) cover by Mia Dyson, but fell madly for Lowell George’s charms within seconds. As I am wont to do from time to time, I thought I might give you kids a chance to dig my latest musical obsession. The only copy of the song on YouTube contains a strange image of a cat singing along. No, I don’t know why. It’s kind of a weird way to be introduced to the country-rock stylings of Little Feat – assuming you’re not familiar with the song – but hell. Whatever. Miming cats with shaved legs and bodies have a right to heart wrenching songs of yesteryear too. Also, remember how I said earlier this year that I would interview Ladyhawke before the year was through? GET YOSELVES READY. More »
