It may be some months before it’s made official, but the drought has broken in Mt Isa, according to locals.
Since January 1, the mining town has been drenched by the best monsoon rains in years, with floodwaters now starting to subside and roads reopening.
The official drought status of Mt Isa is not due to be reviewed by the Local Drought Committees (LDC) until March, but Mayor John Molony said that’s just academia.
“We are now drought free,” Cr Molony said.
Sadly, there’s no word in the article as to how that infamous other drought –
yes, that of the lady kind – is going.
