3:57PM Jess McGuire | So! It seems the reason people were getting in a tizzy about Ian Thorpe being photographed with his housemate of three years, Brazilian swimmer Daniel Mendes, is because they think Thorpie is A Gay and he is doing Gay Things to Daniel! WTF?!
Ian Thorpe has given a statement.
In a statement issued by his management company yesterday, Thorpe, 26, said he was tired of having to address rumours that he was homosexual.
“In the past, on several separate occasions, I have answered questions about my sexuality openly and honestly with the media … my situation in this regard has not changed,” he said.
Thorpe first declared he was “not gay” in a radio interview in 2002, attributing the speculation to the fact he did not fit the stereotype of an Australian man.

11:23AM Jess McGuire | It was weird that the Australian papers gave a damn about Ian Thorpe’s living arrangements, but it’s even weirder that the British tabloids seem fascinated too! Actually, they’re less interested in Daniel The Hot Brazilian Swimmer (although he does rate a mention in a recent article in the Daily Mail) and more concerned with Thorpie’s post-competitive swimming waist line.
During his 10 years in competitive swimming, Ian Thorpe was a perfect example of physical perfection thanks to his athletic figure. After over two years since he announced his retirement, its perhaps no surprise to see ‘The Thorpedo’ is looking noticeably thicker round the waist without his daily swimming sessions.
Saucer of milk, table two!
I’m sure Very Good Friend™ Daniel The Hot Brazilian Swimmer appreciates Thorpie for exactly who he is, no matter what shape that may be. And that, chums, is what you call mateship.

Here are the highlights from the Daily Telegraph’s report on Thorpie’s ’s home life.
· Ian Thorpe’s housemate is a Brazilian swimmer named Daniel Mendes.
· Daniel is described as “more slightly built” than Ian.
· Ian Thorpe’s former coach Tracey Menzies set them up (to become friends).

I don’t recall them making a big deal about the housemates of other celebrities, except for maybe that nice hockey player who lived with Deborah Hutton for seven years.
What gives? I’m almost too nervous to read the article itself, but I will just for you. If it contains anything interesting (and I doubt it, what could be interesting about Ian Thorpe having a nice friend who lives with him?!), I’ll get back to you and we’ll discuss it further.
