Daryl Somers Is Not Behind Recent Anti-Farnham Campaign

10:30AM Jess McGuire | Today’s Herald Sun reports in the Confidential section that some crazed fool out there has been less than pleased with the Farnham flavoured revolution currently occurring around the globe, and they’ve been writing hateful – hateful – letters to the Herald Sun on the topic. And as if this wasn’t devious enough, they’ve tried to frame a celebrity for their doings! More »

YouTube Clip Of The Day

4:01PM Kym Weathersten | The Farnham love refuses to die here on Defamer Australia, and kudos to all of you for searching out amazing Farnesy related clips to watch on YouTube. Here’s something that wonderful and extremely good looking reader Shannon sent in, describing it as “the holy trinity of music trivia, featuring Farnsey…” More »

Daryl Somers Threatens Australia With More ‘Hey Hey’

2:30PM Jess McGuire | As I approach my 28th birthday next month* I suddenly find myself getting much wiser as the days go by, Braithwaite style, and each passing hour sees me move ever closer to my inevitable death. And one of the things I’ve realised I can be certain about in this crazy and unpredictable life is that no matter what’s happening around us, despite every failure in the past and the current worldwide economic woe, regardless of whether there’s a want or a need for it… Daryl Somers is spending every waking moment on this planet plotting a way to get Hey Hey It’s Saturday back on the telly. This is why a heartwarming article about Daryl donating dog food suddenly has me terrified to walk past my TV lest I see the back of Dickie Knee’s head. Former Hey Hey It’s Saturday host Daryl Somers has emerged as an animal lover. More »

Hey Hey, It’s Nine’s Best Idea Yet

11:26AM Clem Bastow | Even though there’s still a fair whack of the year left to go, it’s probably safe to say that 2008 hasn’t been as “two-thousand-and-great” as Channel Nine would’ve hoped; between bonings, cancellations, court orders and Sam Newman, it’s been an annus horribilis that even the battle scarred Queen Liz would’ve shuddered at. Thus, I don’t want to jinx things for our “friends” over at Nine HQ, but the latest whisperings in this godforsaken world could well point towards one of the best ideas the network has come up with in a while: bringing back Hey Hey, It’s Saturday! Yes, with Daryl Somers newly exited from Dancing With The Stars, he’s looking for a gig, and word on the street is that a series of Hey Hey clip shows could turn into a revival. After turning his back on an offer from Foxtel to create a one-off Hey Hey It’s Saturday reunion, Somers is apparently back in discussions with Nine boss David Gyngell about refronting the show. It’s The Day You’ve All Been Waiting For… ‘Dancing With The Stars’ New Cast Revealed!

10:21AM Clem Bastow | After a considerable number of question marks hung over the head of local celebreality franchise Dancing With The Stars, it’s good to see that the “popular light entertainment program” (now that’s a genre title to aspire to if ever there was one!) seems to have gotten its collective shit together and announced its latest cast of stumbling quick-stepping notables – and, in a shocking move, it actually contains stars! Sort of! Dancing … contestants (pictured left to right, back to front) Charli Delaney, Toni Pearen, Danny Green, Jodi Gordon, Brooke Hanson, Paul Licuria, Cal Wilson, Luke Jacobz, James Tobin and Red Symons. Even if the publicity photo looks like something out of Jackie Collins’ broom closet, that’s a pretty decent line-up (you know, if you’re into these sorts of shows, AND I AM). They still have not announced a replacement for retired host Daryl Somers, but – according to the article – Fifi Box and Andrew O’Keefe are “in the mix”. I’m still pinning my hopes on Larry Emdur, but anything will be better than Somers’ constant dad jokes and mugging. More »

Good News/Bad News If You’re A Daryl Somers Fan

6:49PM Jess McGuire | Firstly, the good news. Wheels are in motion as we speak over at Channel Seven for Daryl to get his face back on Australian television screens every Saturday night, old school style! Following talks with Seven boss David Leckie, Somers has received funding to make a pilot of a new Saturday night format, which would see him return to the primetime slot he ruled for 15 years. Hey Hey It’s Saturday began on Channel 9 in 1971 as a Saturday morning children’s cartoon show. In 1984 it graduated to an evening slot and became a powerhouse for Nine. The show won 28 Logies and was holding its own in the ratings when Nine decided to axe it as a result of high production costs. The final episode screened on November 20, 1999. Seven had no comment to make regarding Somers’ return. It is no secret, however, that since his reincarnation as host of the hugely successful Dancing with the Stars, Somers has believed there is a public appetite for a Saturday night variety show. The bad news is, of course, that you’re a fucking idiot. AS ARE YOU, DEFAMER AUSTRALIA! Touche. More »
