Steve Irwin On Winning Streak, If You Don’t Count What Happened Last September
11:39AM Jess McGuire | The shuffling of mortal coils has never been a deterrent in the world of showbiz awards, so it makes sense that the Crocodile Hunter is coming up trumps seven months after being killed by a stingray whilst filming a documentary. Not only will Steve be posthumously honoured at the upcoming Logie Awards with an induction into the TV Hall Of Fame, but he was also the big winner at the recent bums-on-edge-of-seatfest the ASTRA Awards, grabbing Favourite Male Personality.
The subscriber-voted award for his work, aired on the Animal Planet channel, was accepted by Irwin’s friend and manager John Stainton at a ceremony at the Hordern Pavilion in Sydney.
The conservationist and larger-than-life TV presenter also featured in the most outstanding news coverage category, which Sky News won for its piece, A Week That Changed Australia: The Death of Steve Irwin and Peter Brock.
As expected by all seventeen people closely following the awards, Love My Way flipped their opposition over and rode them gently in the acting stakes, although they had to share glory for the Most Outstanding Drama Series with Stupid Stupid Man.
