ARIA Awards Related Blind Item!

8:30AM Jess McGuire | Bits of scurrilous titbits from the ARIA Awards are starting to make their way through the grapevine, and we thought this slice might please the gossip-hungry amongst you. We’ll copy and paste the email we received but we have, of course, changed the names of those involved. Because we’re good like that. Office people who went to the ARIA’s are all gossiping about Mr Sparkles and Mr Fingers still being together and that after all the awards last night the secksual tension was quite open (90210 style I imagine). They all say Mr Sparkles is a bit of a eunuch BUT…that Mr Fingers is like a Brokeback husband. INTERESTING INDEED. And probably VERY FALSE. Unless, you know, it isn’t. As ever, we can’t publish comments which name names (we get smacked in the chops by The Powers That Be if we let ‘em slip through) but feel free to have a guess if you’re happy knowing that only Defamer Australia can read your suggestions and is revelling in it all. Vanessa Amorosi’s Spectacular Career Relaunch Delayed Due To Delta Goodrem’s Bed-Head Led Domination Of Press

2:26PM Jess McGuire | When we read this morning that the one thing standing in the way of Vanessa Amorosi forcing her way back into the hearts and minds of the Australian music purchasing public was the nation’s current mild interest in Delta Goodrem, well, we couldn’t help but condescendingly mutter a quick “Suuuuuuuure…” to ourselves. Vanessa Amorosi will have to wait a few months before she gets to shine again. There is industry speculation that her new album has been postponed for fear it would be overshadowed by Delta Goodrem’s latest effort. The forgotten pop star had been due to release her comeback album, Somewhere in the Real World, this month, but it has been postponed until February. The official word from record company Universal was that Amorosi had decided to do some more work on it, but industry sources attributed the delay to the media and marketing blitz surrounding the release of Goodrem’s Delta. It also reminded us of our favourite one liner from Brendan Shanahan after the 2000 ARIA Awards. You’ll have to excuse us as we are mustering this up purely from memory, but if we’re correct, he quipped that watching the smile on Amorosi’s face during the ceremony eventually turned to a frown of disappointment once she realised she was going to be walking away empty handed after being nominated for a massive six gongs was akin to witnessing “a slug being dropped into a bowl of salt”. Quite the vivid imagery, we’re sure you’d agree. More »

Sterling Work Labelling Your ARIA Photos, News Ltd!

11:06AM Jess McGuire | God love those scamps at Uncle Rupert’s Journalist Sweatshop – they’ve popped up a couple of happy snaps from last night’s ARIA awards (our thoughts on the results are coming soon, although so is Christmas…) and we couldn’t help but gently chuckle to ourselves as we sipped on a mug of hot cocoa, gleefully revelling in their double-whammy of a picture labelling fuck up.   Sure, the lovely Wally De Backer aka Gotye isn’t quite a household name yet, but ‘Gotyer’? Why not call the country’s Best Male Artist ‘Goiter’ and be done with it? And as for dubbing Missy Higgins – hardly an unknown figure in the Australian entertainment scene – ‘Sarah Blasko’… well, we applaud your sheer half-arsed approach to reporting. Cut that down to a quarter-arsed approach, and you’ll be running even with Defamer Australia!  More »

We’re Not Entirely Sure What This Says About The Australian Music Industry But We Suspect It Isn’t Nearly As Good As The Event Producer For The ARIA Awards Thinks

3:43PM Jess McGuire | Possibly a rather ominous opening sentence to kick off this article from the weekend which ponders the contenders for ARIA award nominations this year. James Packer’s wife Erica Baxter, actor Toni Collette and the late Belinda Emmett are all in the running for an ARIA award nomination this year. Of course, we haven’t heard the full length albums produced by any of the above mentioned ladies, so far be it from us to assume they won’t be startling and passionate works of art which will stand the test of time. Has anyone else? Reviews welcome. More »
