About Defamer Australia
Where the bloody hell am I?
You're at the Australian version of popular US showbiz blog Defamer! Think of us as a kind of bastard child the original North American Defamer unknowingly conceived after a brief and ill-advised conjugal visit to an airplane toilet with a fame-obsessed Qantas flight attendant.
Indeed! Exactly what sort of stuff will you be banging on about at Defamer Australia?
We'll not only discuss Australian showbiz as a whole and obsessively watch/review rubbish reality television programs, but we'll also report on the occasional Australian current event/hot news item. We'll put in our two cents when it comes to overseas entertainment related stuff, seasoning it with an Antipodean perspective. We'll bang on about pop culture fads and music until your eyes roll back in your head. Last but not least, we will grab the posts from the US site and publish them right here on Defamer Australia. All in all, that's a lot of fucking stuff to read when you're bored at work.
Rightio. Finally, who are the evil masterminds who publish this thing?
Defamer Australia is published by Allure Media. Depending on who you are, we'll tell you we're either journalists or bloggers. Pick the one you like more.
Who is the Defamer?
Defamer Australia's Editor Jess McGuire is a 27-year-old Melbourne lass with an unhealthy love of pop culture and a mouth like a trucker. She has has been described by various people as "having a penchant for theatrics", being "vaguely menacing but somewhat sexual" and "a lecherous, drunken disappointment to the family". The latter was particularly harsh, but her beloved mother has never been one to mince words.
Jess has "lowered the tone" of various publications including The Sunday Age, The Sun-Herald, jmag, Lucky Magazine, and 64 Magazine, and created online mischief on assorted websites, primarily Ausculture, where she spent more hours than she cares to tally poking fun at Australian Idol, Big Brother, and Kyle Sandilands.
She hosts a weekly show on Melbourne's 3RRR every Wednesday from midnight called I'd Rather Jack, and regularly makes an idiot of herself on Triple J's Robbie, Marieke & The Doctor in her rather special role of "Breakfast Buddy". She can also be heard from time to time breaking CD players and swearing in the middle of the night on Triple J, and on ABC Local Radio programs around the country.
Our Associate Editor Clem Bastow spends most of her day updating her Facebook status, but when she's not doing that she writes for The Age, Inpress, jmag and RocKwiz, and presents a weekly show on Melbourne's 3RRR, Transference. She would like to marry
John Mayer and once sold a Mariah Carey single for $270 on eBay. Not much else has come close to topping the excitement of that moment.
