‘Friday’ Singer Rebecca Black Is A Millionaire, Thanks To Us

Well done, everyone! Rebecca Black, the Ark Music Factory product whose teen dream song about days of the week “Friday” went crazy viral last week, has had her song downloaded over 2 million times on iTunes. Meaning, she’s probably already a millionaire! From Forbes.com:

Since hitting the online music store last Monday, “Friday” has amassed a staggering number of downloads, reportedly topping 2 million; the song currently sits at #45 on the iTunes Top Singles chart. According to 101 Distribution, an independent music distributor, iTunes pays out $.70 per single download in the United States. That’s a much juicier check for Black and Ark Music Factory; even if the numbers are exaggerated, the intake from “Friday” could easily top $US1 million. What’s more, Black is planning to release an acoustic version of the song to disprove speculation that her voice is reliant on AutoTune. Cha-ching!

So, good. In a lot of ways that’s a fair return for the week of intense cyber mockery the 13-year-old was subjected to. Though, let’s all hope, for everyone’s sake, that this ends here. Silly girl makes silly money off of silly song and retreats back into regular teendom (ha, not likely), while everyone else moves on and decides to listen to Laura Nyro instead, and eventually the power of iTunes brings her back from the dead and we all dance in the streets. Sound good?

Just give me a second, I’m going to throw up.

Ok that’s better, she has had 2 million sales from such a poorly written/sung meaningless song. Sure I play it non-stop, but she does not deserve it.

I sure you all that forbes magazine is wrong in that. The highest a song has sold in a week through downloads is at 600000 in one week. Friday has not even been higher than 19 on the itunes chart. I don’t know why would forbes put up a false story like that and let everyone ride on it without hard facts. It’s absurd…

    FALSE.!

This is just an assumption ,she is not making that much. Read the details on her Wiki page.

“However, these sales estimates were later proven incorrect, with Billboard estimating sales of approximately 43,000 copies, roughly equivalent to $26,700 in royalties.“

This sucks. I’ve been a music producer for decades and have worked with some of the most incredible talents in the world… and her music sucks.

Judge people by the music that they listen to and the books that they read. It will never fail you in life!

  • Last time I checked, $26,000 USD was not a $1,000,000.
