What Ken Be Done?
My friend Courtney sent me an email today saying “You are the woman who would be tickled a little bit neon by this I think… A friend of mine is doing something quite novel to raise money for an Australian charity called the Social Studio that works with migrant women in Melbourne. Her name is Jackie Ruddock and she has committed to wearing Ken Done for 365 days!” UMMMMMM SAY NO MORE, I AM ALREADY ON BOARD WITH THIS SHIZZ!
Tell me this isn’t the greatest idea ever?
Can collecting Ken Done be good? What would it look like to wear a different piece of 1980s Australian fashion for one year?
What Ken Be Done is Jackie Ruddock’s tribute to Ken Done and other 1980s Australian fashion icons. What Ken Be Done also raises money for The Social Studio – who work with young people from refugee backgrounds living in Melbourne, Australia. These young people develop their self-esteem, skills and employment prospects using fashion design as a starting point.
Beginning on Tuesday 29 June 2010 – the same day Ken Done celebrates his 70th birthday – I pledge to wear a piece of Ken Done fashion for one year (as well as some other inspired pieces by 1980s Australian fashion icons). For every day of *good fashion* I will donate $3 (= a coffee) to The Social Studio. Watch out for some other important vintage Australian icons being celebrated over 365 days! Check out Fridays – the ‘inspired by Ken Done’ fashion day! Join me on the journey and pledge a donation, of money or 1980s Australian fashion, to make a *good* difference…
If you’re all “HOLY SHIT, MY MIND HAS BEEN TOTALLY BLOWN BY THIS IDEA” like I am, then you should click on the link below and see how you can make a difference.
