Homebake Has Been Cancelled!
Bad news, festival pigs – this year’s Homebake has been called off due to… well… not being able to put together a decent line-up, apparently. Well, that doesn’t say much for the Australian music scene!
From SMH:
One of Sydney’s most iconic music festivals, Homebake, won’t take place this year with organisers putting the event on the backburner until December 2011. Failed attempts to secure a decent line-up for the festival have been blamed for the year off.
Presumably Australian musicians will start lifting their game in 2011. Just kidding! Don’t unfriend me on MySpazz, bands of Oz!

Australia’s Ultimate Elvis
I am providing an update on my friend, Paul Fenech aka ‘Elvis Alive.
Paul Fenech as ‘Elvis Alive’ was the first place winner in the Preliminary leg of the South Pacific Ultimate Elvis contest at the Wintersun festival held in Coolangatta , Queensland, Australia.
Paul Fenech is the only person from Sydney NSW to represent Australia in the Ultimate Elvis World Contest semi finals/final 2010 staged by Elvis Presley Enterprises Inc which was held in Memphis USA on 12 August, 2010. There are more than 25,000 Elvis Tribute Artists around the world and only twenty-three of the best Elvis tribute artists in the world took to the stage at the historic Orpheum Theatre in downtown Memphis. The only way an Elvis tribute artist can advance to the semifinal round is by winning an official preliminary round.
Elvis Presley Enterprises Inc judging criteria is as follows:-
• Vocals – Overall singing ability
• Appearance – Ability to create a look and style that well represents Elvis.
• Stage Presence – Ability to re-create the charisma Elvis created when performing on stage.
• Overall Performance – Quality of the overall performance as a whole.
Although Paul was not the overall winner, his achievement in being recognised by Elvis Presley Enterprises as one of the world class performers is significant. Paul was interviewed by Channel 9’s Robert Penfold while in Memphis and I know a longer version was screened on the Today Show on the Saturday after the contest.
Paul Fenech does still have some limited dates available for 2010 and bookings are now open for 2011. Paul’s contact details are Mobile: 0414536533 Email: elvis@elvisalive.com.
