Peaches Geoldof Is Now A Scientologist
Since I’ve been in London, I’ve managed to catch two episodes of a television show called Fearne And…. The program sees Fearne Cotton, an omnipresent British television presenter, following famous women around with a camera crew to try and “peel back the layers of certain celebrities’ lives”. Basically, she tries to convince us that people like Paris Hilton and Peaches Geldof are vaguely interesting and worthy of the attention they receive from the media.
Unfortunately for viewers, Paris Hilton and Peaches Geldof are just as vapid and self-involved as you’d always imagined – the latter, particularly so.
I can’t remember how long Fearne and Peaches Geldof actually went for, but I can assure you it felt like an eternity. I couldn’t work out what I found more painful to watch – Fearne sucking up to Peaches seemingly in the vain hope they’d become best friends for life, or Peaches struggling to come up with things to say that’d make her sound as intelligent as she believes she is.
During one conversation, Peaches insisted she isn’t very interested in celebrity culture and partying, saying “You know what I’m intrigued by? Like, space and wormholes and Stephen Hawking’s theories…” She then went on to say that her enthusiam for “like, space and wormholes” and the Large Hadron Collider had influenced her spirituality, but she immediately clammed up when asked exactly what she meant by that.
Later however, Peaches admitted she’s now a Scientologist.
“I’ve been [a Scientologist] for a while now. It’s like, I was confused about what path to go through and I feel like I needed a spiritual path and I was looking at different things.
“I felt I was lacking something when I didn’t have a faith. In the end, all it’s about is making yourself a better person. My father says anything that makes me feel like a better person and makes me happy is good.”
Well, that’s true – it’s always nice to feel like a better person. It’s even better to actually be a better person, so hopefully she gives that a crack soon too.

I love Fearne very much and I thought she did an excellent job with the reviled Peaches, who didn’t need much assistance coming off even more moronic than one would imagine (as you note).
