Eamon Sullivan Wins Celebrity MasterChef

I can’t say I really got into Celebrity MasterChef – but to be fair, I was overseas for a fair chunk of the time the show appeared on our screens. Maybe the nation went nuts for it and I just missed my chance to jump on a bandwagon? Whatever. The important thing is, Eamon Sullivan emerged the winner, out-cooking the likes of Kirk Pengilly and model Rachael Finch to clinch the title of Australia’s Celebrity MasterChef.

Reports AAP:

Olympic swimmer Eamon Sullivan has embraced his competitive nature to beat INXS rocker Kirk Pengilly and model Rachael Finch to become the first Celebrity MasterChef winner.

After a disastrous start, the 24-year-old won the competition, finishing with 59 points – just four points ahead of Pengilly and 13 in front of Finch.

I wonder if Stephanie Rice is feeling any (hunger) pangs of regret?

It sounds as though Celebrity MasterChef was quite the experience for Eamon.

Sullivan had gone into the Network Ten cooking competition determined but said he was surprised to win after struggling through the taste test when he mixed up rosemary and thyme in a Spanish paella.

For future reference, Eamon – that’s Thyme on the left, and Rosemary’s on the right. (<-- HILARIOUS JOKE THAT WILL APPEAL TO ABC VIEWERS!!!!!)

“I thought I was probably going to stuff up the rest because I was so angry,” Sullivan said. “I was lucky enough I could get some nerves together and muster up something to get back in the competition.”

How very ‘Julie’ of him.

Sullivan won over the judges in the second round, cooking a chocolate delice with judge Gary Mehigan even licking the plate.

“I kid you not, that is one of the top three desserts I’ve had this year – that is absolutely stunning,” Mehigan said.

Licking a plate? Gracious. Were you raised by dogs, Gary Mehigan?

In the final round contestants were required to cook a roast chicken in salt crust and hay created by Melbourne chef Andrew McConnell, with Sullivan struggling before coming good.

Sullivan attributed his cooking prowess to his lifestyle.

“You learn early on when you’re a sports person how to cook for yourself and how to cook the right things for yourself and that teaches you the fundamentals of cooking something well,” he said.

You’re inspiring, Eamon. I am going to go for a swim, and then furiously cook a Spanish paella while listening to Simon & Garfunkel’s ‘Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme’.
