Brodie Harper Always Dreamed Of Talking About The Weather

Yesterday’s piece in the Herald Sun about Channel Nine’s new weather girl Brodie Harper was filled to the brim with delightful quotes sure to entertain folks like us. In other words, it’s pisstake heaven.

After all, any article that opens earnestly with the words “Brodie Harper has always dreamed of being a weather girl. Now she’s finally got her wish.” is pretty much guaranteed to please me.

Let’s allow Brodie to explain in her own words why she’s perfect to take over Livinia Nixon’s role as the weather presenter for Channel Nine news.

“I know it sounds strange — and not many people would say this — but ever since I started my career in television I’ve wanted to do the weather,” she said. “My dad is a fisherman and my husband surfs so I am always talking about swells and wind direction.”

ALWAYS talking about swells and wind direction? Really? How gripping!

It gets better.

Harper won the job after two auditions. She said she had a feeling the job was hers when she heard one of her favourite songs — Summer Time by Thirsty Merc — playing on her car radio on the way home from the second audition.

She heard the same song the day she won the job on Postcards in 2007.

“It’s one of my favourite songs because it always makes me feel happy thinking about summer time,” she said. “When I heard it after the audition I thought ‘Yep, I reckon it’s mine.’ It was an omen.”

See, when I hear Thirsty Merc, I think “God, remember Rai Thistlethwayte’s ridiculous facial hair? And his career as a clean-cut pop star? And didn’t he briefly diddle Ozzy Osbourne’s daughter?” So I suppose that’s why I’m not living the dream, babbling about swells and wind direction to all and sundry.

Of course, I am just being daft. Congratulations to Brodie – I’m glad she got the showbiz job she’s been dreaming of all her life. And congratulations to Channel Nine for another courageous hiring! Young, blonde and tanned? Quelle surprise.

This chick is super annoying and she is not pleasanft to listen to – ways she speaks is awhward and has a real twang. I think we’ve had enough she grates and it’s so forced

she’s so annoying, bring back livvie

  • Laura-Lee

I am so glad other people think the same thing. Her voice and tone irritates me something shocking. I have never found a tv personality annoying but her. . . CHANGE HER CHANNEL 9

  • Sean

She is the most Annoying, Annoying, did I say Annoying person on television. A wet fish could do a better job of presenting the weather. What is with her monotone voice? Just terrible!

Enough is enough – nothing against the girl – but the way she articulates & the upward inflection at the end of each sentence drives us CRAZY – we love channel 9 – but OMG give her a job behind the scenes

    ps, please

  • unmaned

i went to school with her and she deserves none of this

  • Aeria

Wow, so it’s not just me!!! I mute the TV when i see her, and tell my daughter not to immitate her. She is truly annoying and i dont think the upward inflection ‘trend’ is the right way to go. I seem to be hearing this more and more of this upward inflection from some younger presenters. Is this the future? She is very stiff !!!

  • The Benham Family

Totally agree Aeria – we also put our opinion in writing to Channel 9 – One can only hope they find her a spot behind the scenes. As for unmaned – (Did you mean unnamed?) if so is your name Brodie?

We also quickly change the channel at the end of the news

    OMG she is annoying!!!!!!!

bad presenter but she blows the wind through my sails. i’d love for her to monitor my southern swell direction and raise my temperature and predict moisture conditions down in tassie. go girl!
