Stevie Nicks – ‘Stand Back’

You might remember a few weeks ago I shoved Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Seven Wonders’ down your throat… and you loved it. Or at the very least I didn’t receive any death threats over the incident so I am just going to assume you loved it.

Fleetwood Mac is still my happy place, and I’ve been working hard at ensuring ‘Seven Wonders’ gets played everywhere I go. And God bless Derek Guille from 774 ABC Melbourne who managed to surprise me with it during an appearance on his Evening show on Monday night! He’s very lucky I didn’t scream “FUCK YEAH” on air when the song began playing. It tends to have that effect on me.

I really love Derek Guille, by the way. He is a true gentleman. The world would be a better place if there were more broadcasters like him.

ANYWAY, I AM GETTING OFF TOPIC.

My Fleetwood Mac obsession is slowly turning into a Stevie Nicks obsession (sorry, Christine! Sorry, the other dudes!), and there is a small small tiny minuscule chance that I might get to meet her when she comes to Australia. As you can imagine, I am giddy with delight at the prospect, and listening to as much Stevie Nicks as possible at the moment.

The wonderful Fee Bee-Squared from Triple R’s Breakfasters introduced me to the Stevie song ‘Stand Back’ and it’s amazing. How could I have only just discovered it? I am angry at myself, but also relieved that it is now in my life. It should be in your life too.

  • EFFF YEAAAAH on the Seven Wonders accomplishment! Stand Back is the full blown Stevie Nation national anthem. So glad you have attained citizenship.

  • Wait, you’re just now discovering these songs?
How can that be? However, I am happy for you. Welcome to my past life. Stevie is mesmerizing, so be careful or you will become obsessed.

    • Yeah, I can’t believe I’m only just discovering these songs either. On the upside, I have Stevie’s entire back catalogue to look forward to, which makes life seem a little bit brighter.

    Hello,
How can it be that you are not familure with Stevie’s back catalog? Next your going to say hey did you no Stevie has hundreds of beautiful DEMOs floating around the web. Come on get with the program. Stevie Nicks has always been the Beauty behind the Beasts.

  • A Stevie Nicks fan you will become as you get into the rest of her music… her persona w/FM and solo. She is the reason I discovered FM in the 70’s. On the back of the Rumours album is a great and beaytiful pictiure of this beatiful woman who made my jaw drop. Then I realized that this was also the woman who sang about a “woman taken by the wind” that I heard on a car radio.. fell in love with her voice and the lyrics about this crazy woman called “Rhiannon”. Well.. I am now 45 and still adore Stevie and FM. I have met her once at the end of a show.. agve her a paintig I did of her and flowers and more. She was so cool about the gifts. She even later sent me a letter to thank me for the painting ( I had included my address) I had a return address from the envelope and later sent her more of my art that included her. she wrote again and included a few photos of herself and her art. I was elated! Yes there are dozens and dozens of Stevie demos on ebay and some that I’ve aquired from who knows where.. demos to many of her famous songs. My fave and always will be- Rhiannon and it’s many versions and demos and related songs..like Forest of the Black Roses…so many Rhiannon songs that she recorded for the idea of a Rhiannon movie. If you didn’t know, there has been talk of a movie about Stevie in the future and who will play her role.

Stevie is the best ever!. comparable to Janis Joplin, I think. She is full of non stop energy.. is front woman of FM and still carries herself as a solo artist. She is very giving and thoughtful. She has been reigned the Queen of Rock and Roll by Rolling Stone. She is magical and mystical, but still just a damn cool lady! She is definitely one of the best ever and has earned that honor.

If you want to hear some really great Stevie, look into the days and recordings of Buckingham/Nicks… pre-FM. If you go to my website, you will see my drawing of the cover of the only Buckingham/Nicks lp, which is available now on CD. You might find it on ebay. There is talk of tentative plans to re-release this gem. Early days with FM and the B/N recordings far surpass Stand Back in my opinion.

Also on my website you will see a painting of FMin concert, as well as a painting I did for her portraying an early demo called Goldfish and the Ladybug, which there was even talk about creating a short anumated film about with Stevie’s own art. it’s incredible that all her popularity and wealth hasn’t seemed to go to her head, and she still remains that cool folky persona. Really.. try to find some early demos of hers.. incredible!

Hey George my fave is Sara

  • I thought my web address would be shown… http://www.artbyroger.net if you want to see a few paintings that include Stevie/ FM / and ideas I had about her songs… another monochromatic blue painting titled ‘”A Promised Heaven”.. an idea stemming from the lyrics in Rhiannon.. I could go on and on about Stevie.
