Jessica Mauboy No Longer Waitin’ For ARIA Nominations
If you’ll forgive a bit of atrocious title punnery based on her back catalogue, exciting news for Jessica Mauboy this morning: she’s ahead of the pack in her first post-Idol ARIA Awards, leading the field with a massive seven nominations. Who’s laughing now, Kyle?
From the official presser that went out earlier today:
Pop princess and Idol alumni Jessica Mauboy blitzes the nominations with seven nods for her debut album Been Waiting, which has achieved double-platinum sales to date. The 20 year-old from Darwin is nominated for BEST POP RELEASE, BEST FEMALE ARTIST, BREAKTHROUGH ARTIST – ALBUM, BREAKTHROUGH ARTIST – SINGLE (Running Back), HIGHEST SELLING AUSTRALIAN ALBUM and an impressive double-nomination in the HIGHEST SELLING AUSTRALIAN SINGLE category for Running Back and Burn.
Other artists to score multiple nominations include Empire Of The Sun, with six, and Defamer Australia favourite Ladyhawke, who nabbed five. The ARIAs have had a chequered past when it comes to giving locally made pop the recognition it deserves, so I’ll be the first to say a hearty HELL YES! to this year’s list of nominees. (I’m reserving my ‘F-CK YES!’ until I see who actually wins on the night.)
You can read the full list of nominees at ARIA’s strangely noisy homepage here.
