James Packer Charms Seven CEO With His Wit And Verve
Well, we were just talking (in a round-about manner coughcoughXENUcough) about James Packer this morning, so what a surprise to see him pop up in the news this lunchtime – either we’re plugged into the collective unconscious, or I don’t know what. Anyway, it would seem that the junior Packer has been showing Seven CEO David Leckie what a winning way he has with words.
The Seven bigwig approached Packer at a party, and must have been impressed with the erudite manner with which Packer greeted him:
Once great allies, Mr Leckie, now Seven CEO but previously CEO at the Packer-owned Nine Network, approached Mr Packer at a birthday lunch for their friend and former colleague Sam Chisholm and, with hand outstretched in welcome, expected a warm response.Instead, the casino magnate’s “face went red and hands started to shake” as he greeted Mr Leckie with “f-ck off”.
He then is said to have told his former mentor: “You want to go outside now? Let’s do it.”
Fantastic! Leckie, needless to say, did not choose to “go outside now”. But what I particularly enjoyed about this bit of industry scuttlebutt is the way The Daily Telegraph titled the piece:
Nothing like a bit of comic-book sweary punctuation to get me laughing! Now, if you don’t mind, I’m going to $%#* over here and #@ some #$*@&^# %&@s.
