Robyn Loau – ‘Sick With Love’
Generally I try to avoid following celebrities on Twitter because I barely have enough hours in the day to keep up to date with the online exploits of my real friends, let alone people I don’t actually know*. But being a pop culture blogger whose job involves having a vague idea of what the famous kids are doing means that I do make an effort to check in on a few tabloid favourites from time to time – and very occasionally my visits pay off.
I was reading Jess from The Veronicas’ Twitter page and she posted a link to a video next to the words “Everytime Im making love with you – kind of makes me feel like I hate you..” I began scratching my head and thinking to myself “God, you know these lyrics! Who is responsible for them? THINK! THINK!”
A quick visit to Jess Veronicas Tumblr account, and I had an answer. Why, it’s from former Girlfriend member Robyn Loau solo work! And then I decided I should share the video of Robyn’s song ‘Sick With Love’ with my beloved readers because I had forgotten how out-of-the-blue unreal that particular pop single was back in the day.
If I recall correctly, this little ditty was played on Triple J a fair bit! AND I AM TALKING TRIPLE J BACK IN THE NINETIES, PEOPLE!
And what a leap – to deliver a song like ‘Sick With Love’ when your previous public offerings included this:
Quite the impressive transition. Lest we forget.
THANK YOU JESS FROM OUT OF THE VERONICAS FOR REMINDING ME ABOUT THIS AUSTRALIAN POP PIONEER! REALLY APPRECIATE IT! KEEP UP THE GOOD TWITTERING!
*Ruby Rose appears to be the exception to this rule, and I cannot remember exactly why she’s the exception to this rule, but she is. She began following me but then the other day she stopped and began following Wes Carr instead (WES CARR! HOW COULD YOU STEAL RUBY ROSE FROM ME WHEN I WAS SO NICE TO YOU AND GAVE YOU A RAD NICKNAME LIKE WES COUGAR CARR!), so now I am going to keep following her and annoying her until I win back her Twitter love… and then I will probably punch myself in the face.

Recently I re-discovered that very same song (though, I wasn’t motivated by one of the veronica’s …I just remembered more of the lyrics…& google did the rest)
Which of course, started a 90’s JJJ/Rage nostalgia trip.
It’s a slippery slope people
How weird is it that the Malaria album Sick With Love is from was only released for the first time last year? Itunes didn’t even exist when it was meant to come out (I don’t think?)
Oh dear, that second clip was so terribly 90’s I spewed a little in my mouth. Those jeans, the shoulder pads, the sunflower dress and those stupid bloody hats and hairdos. Ugh – memories!
