Kylie’s New Hairstyle – Charlie’s Angels Meets 80s Mullet, Apparently
Surely it’s too soon to be describing people as latter-day Farrah Fawcetts? Why, the memory of having her father hit on her at the Charlie’s Angels star’s funeral is still fresh in poor Tatum O’Neal’s mind! Still, that’s exactly how WalesOnline have described Our Kylie’s new hairstyle… well, sort of.
Let’s hear from the Welsh.
Looking like a latter-day Farrah Fawcett, gorgeous Kylie Minogue is every inch the glamour puss as she steps out with voluptuous curls. But while the 41-year-old’s new look brings to mind the late star of ’70s TV show Charlie’s Angels her tresses also recall Kylie’s nightmare barnet of the ’80s – when she played tomboy mechanic Charlene Mitchell in the Australian soap Neighbours.
Got that? So Kylie’s current hairstyle is both glamorous, and also entirely bogan. It’s a fine line to walk, but Kylie somehow pulls it off. I know what you’re thinking right now, dear reader – what kind of work goes into creating and maintaining a look as precarious as that?
Thankfully, the Western Mail has turned to an expert to find out more. Lara Johnson runs upmarket salons in Swansea and Neath, and she has many, many thoughts regarding Kylie’s Farrullet.
“It’s a big story for the autumn and winter – we are getting more and more of a retro feel and a bit more of an old-school glamour feel.
“We have seen the super slick straightened look and now we have got this big turnaround with vintage glamour – all with beautiful styled hair, bigger curls and more movement and body.
“Nine times out of 10 hair is so much more beautiful like that. It flatters everyone, whereas poker straight hair does not always work on a lot of ladies’ faces.”
“Of course, Kylie has been styled, she hasn’t done that herself. So for a consumer to look at it and think, ‘I want my hair like that’, they should bear in mind it has been professionally done. It needs big rollers. Big heated rollers are a major thing to achieve the glamour look. Exactly like what your nan used to use.”
Got that? Big heated rollers are the secret behind this season’s must-have haircut, the Farrullet.
And just to make sure they’re completely across the huge story that is Kylie’s Farrullet, the Western Mail turns to a second hairstylist for feedback.
Hair stylist Dom Capel has looked after the hair of models including Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell and Agyness Deyn at fashion shows in Milan, Paris and London.
The 38-year-old said: “It went for a while that everything was deadpan and straight with not a lot of movement going on, but now there is a lot more curl and there seems to be a lot more movement now. It is very ‘Farrah Fawcett’, meaning that it moves when you walk. It’s about voluminous, beautiful, sexy hair that’s got movement, so that it does not sit still all the time.”
Models Dom has dealt with at London, Milan and Paris fashion weeks this year have all wanted bouncy hair.
“There has to be movement in the hair. People have just got bored of having dead straight hair that’s not very flattering,” he said, adding: “Kylie is an icon and has a major influence on what people do. And on a personal level, there is the traumatic experience that she has gone through with her hair loss. Now to grow it back in a full mane, that is going to attract a lot of attention.”
After all that, the article does not contain a single photo of Kylie’s Farrullet. Amazing. So at least they’ve described what it looks like over and over and over again in the piece.
I am setting a Google alert for “kylie minogue hair”. Defamer Australia is going to be all over this shit, don’t you worry.

I love the Daily Mail’s take on her hairdo:
‘Curly Kylie looks a little sheepish’
P.S LOL @ Farrulet!! I love it!
I’m just wondering where you get ‘bogan’ from Jess. That article seems quite complimentary of our Kylie, but perhaps it doesn’t pay to be individual if you’re a tall poppy.
