Kyle Sandilands Suspended From Radio Again

Kyle Sandilands has now proved beyond a doubt that those of us who believed him to be a total moron were completely correct in our assumption. Turns out folks weren’t overly pleased by Kyle’s suggestion that Magda Szubanski would lose more weight if she was put in a concentration camp. Who knew?

He returned to the airwaves on a short leash but 2DayFM declined to use a newly installed kill switch on Kyle Sandilands yesterday when the shock jock suggested Magda Szubanski would lose more weight in a concentration camp. Sandilands, who has only just returned to the airwaves with Jackie O after their on-air rape revelation scandal, has again sparked controversy, this time with his comments about the popular comedian.

”You put her in a concentration camp and you watch the weight fall off … like she could be skinny,” he said on the 2DayFM breakfast show. Szubanski has lost 25 kilograms in a well-documented weight battle as the face of Jenny Craig. Sandilands and Jackie O were debating who should be the next face of the weight-loss company.

”Let’s face it, Magda could have another run at it couldn’t she, she could get another season out of them,” Sandilands said. ”She’s not skinny.” When Jackie O said Szubanksi had already said she may not be able to lose any more weight, Sandilands responded: ”That’s what all fat people say.”

And now guess what’s happened? Why, Kyle’s been suspended again!

Shock jock Kyle Sandilands has been suspended again after insulting Holocaust survivors by saying comedian Magda Szubanski should be put into a concentration camp to lose weight. 2Day FM has issued a statement saying the comments Sandiland made during The Kyle and Jackie O Show yesterday were “unacceptable”.

“(We) sincerely apologise and regret any offence they caused,” 2DayFM said.

The suspension will be in effect until further discussions between Sandilands and station management, 2DayFM said.

Here’s the thing. Kyle Sandilands is not evil, he’s just fairly stupid. And if you put a fairly stupid person in front of a microphone, they’re highly likely to say fairly stupid things because they don’t know any better. Because they’re fairly stupid.

So here’s a revolutionary idea for Austereo – scrap the fairly stupid breakfast show, and hire some folks who actually show an iota of intelligence when they open their mouths.

I agree that he is not the Devil’s spawn, he’s just a very dim individual who doesn’t have much grey matter. Surely the time has come to draw that line in the sand and take him off, but you know that the good folk at Austereo only converse in dollar signs, so he will be back soon enough. What else are the brain dead of Australia going to listen to? Without Kyle’s show they would be roaming the streets between 6-9am much like the zombies in Jacko’s “Thriller” film clip.

I think it was in bad taste, but the fact is from documented evidence no-one kept on weight in the camps. Every single person no matter what their previous body type lost weight. So people who say “it my metabolism ” or ” I have lost all I can ” are clearly making excuses that history show not to be true.

“King” Kyle has had enough airtime and publicity so let’s stop inflating his profile any further.

    • Kyle is a very ignorant person who should learn that hole in his face which we call a mouth. He must think flowers grow better in his weed infested garden which is what he is, a weed. And someone should and he should pull of air and TV for good.

  • Alison

Kyle Sandilands isn’t just ignorant, he’s nasty. He is ego-driven and has no compassion for anyone: if it serves him and pays him to say anything, he will. In a just world he would be dropped by all media and earn nothing from radio tv or print. Car salesman? You’re joking! I’d run a mile from that image!

My question to all Australian is where is our Right of Speech? We may not like things Kyle is saying on radio but he is certainly entitled to his opinion! Just like we listeners have the right to switch channel or off the radio!

We need to be careful how this case is going to fan out and impact Australian as a whole. If by commenting little things here and there will get us into trouble, then in the future nobody is dare to comment on anything — that includes speaking of the truth!!! Freedom of Speech is fundamental human right. By condemning it, we are going to develop a society that is fear of speaking out and everyone will become so superficial, is that what we really want for this country and our next generations?

Lastly folks, if you think Kyle has no right to comment on fat or concentration camp, then why are you here posting comments about Kyle is ignorant and stupid.. now aren’t you the pot calling the kettle black?

Please do not kill the Freedom of speech in this country!

  • GG

We don’t have Freedom of Speech enshrined in our constitution. Um that’s the United States. The right to be treated with respect is that a basic human right? You know, while we’re making them up.

    • Sly

Wow. So no more fat jokes then. I wonder where that leaves shows such as Simpsons, Family guy or South Park. Maybe you freedom hating prats should go after them next.

I think Magda’s reply was a touch of genius. She waved away any thought that the comments offended her, but then drew in anyone affected by the WWII apocalypse as those who should be offended. Kyle just inherited a whole lot more Jewish enemies in the process, and in the media world, his time is probably up. Way overdue.

  • It's Just the Vibe of the Thing

“My question to all Australian is where is our Right of Speech?”

We don’t have that here. The only “free speech” we have is that which is implied by virtue of living in a democracy, that is, we have the IMPLIED right of POLITICAL free speech. There is no other “right of speech” in Australia, either explicit or implicit.

There is also no guaranteed right of arrogant tools to be shock jocks and say anything they want without consequence or interference from their bosses and/or the general public. Sure, Kyle’s entitled to his opinions. So are the people who find him offensive. So are his bosses.

For the record, I certainly do exercise my right to listen to something other than Kyle Sandilands, but I can’t escape him. He acts the prat, and I hear about it. I’d have to go live in a cave in the outback to fully escape the irritating presence of Kyle Sandilands, these days, and there is no constitutional right to be a media whoring dickhead.

As much as I hate to agree with Dave Hughes on anything, he’s right about Kyle Sandilands being a dickhead. He’s also right that dickheads have the same rights as other people, and that, in Australia, includes the implied right of political free speech, and no more, including some implied right to have everyone like you and think you’re a top bloke, no matter how many times you run your mouth without engaging your brain.

Jess, I can’t help but observe that by the very nature of your post, although it is critical and contains commendable clarity, is doing exactly what you accuse Kyle of doing – voicing an opinion. How is it that a fairly stupid person can attain and uphold interest in so many people for so long? More so being active in radio for 15 years; a highgly competitive industry. As similar comments note, Aus Stereo is a business and he simply holds market share as far as listeners are concerned. Whilst I do agree with your humble notion that we should have “iotas of intelligence” on air, this is not the wavelength of mass, conventional listeners that 2day FM’s advertisers rely on for revenue. I too notice that your comments are moderated based on subjective and initial, pre-determined criteria. So does an opposing view on something you have written still fulfil the very nature of objective blogging? It may serve well to use a more respectable term than moron. Whilst I do not wish for this to be a self-prophesising tribute, as someone who does appreciate Kyle and his black and white approach, I thought the other end of the spectrum was necessary and attributable here.

Kyle has aspergers so he will never really understand what all the fuss is about- on the up side for him he won’t ever really care either.

  • Sue

One of our black comedians was on British TV today and Kyle’s name came up cos the comedian said he had been on Kyle’s radio show when in Australia and was gob-smacked to be asked if he ventured out after dark!
So, as well as being an idiot, he’s proved himself to be racist too. I had never heard of this guy before; knew about the girl’s lie detector test on air but didn’t link the two until I looked up this joker’s name on the net after hearing about his racist remark today.
BTW, is his sidekick the Jackie O referred to in Kath & Kim? (I’m not Australian, so how would I know?)
