Hamish And Andy Winning Hearts In America

What have Australian radio gods Hamish and Andy been up to lately? Oh, only charming the pants off every television viewer in America! Well, every television viewer in America who watches Jay Leno. Check out the glowing pre-appearance description of the pair from Bryan, who I suppose is the Leno equivalent of the dude on Rove whose name I can’t remember who runs around doing those Behind The Scenes bits*.

From Backstage with Bryan:

It’s Day 3 of “The Jay Leno Show” and we’re keeping it moving!! Today we have a fun show. I’m really excited to see “Hamish and Andy” come on to introduce America to “Ghosting.” I’m a proud badge-carrying Australiaophile, so to have these guys on is ace! (That’s Australian slang for “very cool!!”)

A little background…Hamish and Andy have the number one radio show in Australia. They are also contributors to one of my favorite shows ever – “Rove.” It’s a show hosted by a friend of ours, Australian talk show host Rove McManus. Anyway, you’re going to love Hamish and Andy and I’m pretty sure a lot of you will try some “ghosting” of your own after you see this segment.

Remember when the Australian media was trying to convince us that Rove was about to replace Conan O’Brien and become a talk show hosting sensation in the States because he appeared on Jay Leno’s show a few times? Ha! Rove might be the next Jay Leno, but he’s not the next Conan O’Brien, bless him. Sometimes I forget that Rove and Jay’s bromance actually happened, it feels like a fairytale or something. I hope someone knocks out a McManus/Leno tribute video on YouTube soon – perhaps with Train’s Drops Of Jupiter as the soundtrack? If you know how to create such a monstrosity, please get in touch.

Anyway!

Hamish and Andy are excellent and charming and have that affable everyman quality that the Yanks like so much in their Antipodeans (hello, Bret and Jemaine!) so I’ve no doubt their appearance on Leno will generate a lot of interest in the States. We might end up losing them to a US cable network, you know. And then what will we be left with?

*Don’t tell me Roving Enterprises stole the idea from Jay Leno! I am shocked. I’m going to choose to believe Leno nicked the concept from Rove, who innocently mentioned it on one of their man-dates.

Funnily enough, the behind-the-scenes man on Rove is Haydo, one of Hamish’s current housemates.

    Couldn’t make that stuff up.

I think it’s fair to say that Rove stole his whole entire show idea off Jay Leno and David Letterman… but Hamish and Andy are great!!

Oh please! Leno & Letterman “stole” their shows from Carson who probably “stole” it from someone else.
