Everything’s Coming Up Warney

Remember when it seemed Shane Warne’s life had turned to rubbish? He’d finished up with test cricket, split from his wife, failed at quitting smoking – granted, these incidents aren’t in any kind of chronological order, but you get my point. But these days, Shane is a total success story. The subject of an acclaimed musical, he’s back with his missus, and Uma Thurman is coming to his birthday party. Wait, what?

Yup, apparently Shane is friends with Uma Thurman. No, I’m not quite sure how it happened either.

Australian spin legend Shane Warne will celebrate his 40th birthday with 200 mates, a bottle of Polish vodka, a Cuban cigar – and possibly Hollywood actress Uma Thurman. Warne turns 40 on Sunday.

Speculation mounted on Wednesday that the Hollywood superstar of Kill Bill fame will join the 200-strong invitation list including Sam Newman, Garry Lyon, Eddie McGuire, Jeff Fenech, poker ace Jo Hachem and a host of business leaders and media chiefs. Ex-wife Simone Callahan will also be there in the latest sign their roller coaster romance is back on track.

How on earth are Shane Warne and Uma Thurman friends? Or when they say “possibly”, do they mean it in an “anything is possible” kinda way? If so, it’s possible Uma Thurman is coming to my birthday party next year too.

Shane’s party will be happening at a Chapel Street venue, and his demands are simple (and kinda old school Britney-ish too.)

It is believed Warne’s only request to venue management was for a regular flow of his preferred drink of choice – ‘Belevedere vodka and Red Bull’ — and somewhere to enjoy a celebratory smoke.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, WARNEY!
