Ryan Phillippe’s Aussie missus Abbie Cornish is a red hot contender for an Oscar! Well, that’s according to Sydney Confidential, who read it in the LA Times. Which is good enough for me!

She’s already a hot blonde Hollywood actress who plays the part of a veritable stepmum to Reese Witherspoon’s kids, now Abbie Cornish may be one step closer to Ryan Phillipe’s Oscar-winning ex-wife.

Wow, way to make it sound as though Abbie Cornish’s entire existence is dedicated to rivaling Reese Witherspoon! Also – it’s Phillippe, not Phillipe, isn’t it?

Cornish, who has been dating Phillipe since his marriage breakdown to Witherspoon in 2006, is generating early Oscar buzz of her own in the US with her role in Jane Campion’s drama Bright Star. The LA Times’ influential showbiz section The Envelope has mentioned the Aussie star as a possible contender for the Best Actress Oscar.

A Jane Campion film certainly sounds Oscar-worthy. I don’t even need to see Bright Star – I am predicting Academy Award glory for Abbie Cornish, and I will be thoroughly outraged if she doesn’t come home with the little gold man. And an Oscar.
