The Cause Of Mischa Barton’s Time In The Crazy House: Wisdom Teeth

Remember when Mischa Barton was involuntarily committed this past July? Well, we finally found out why. It’s because her teeth hurt. That’s probably the worst rehab excuse we’ve ever heard. Why not just go with “exhaustion?”

We all know that “exhaustion” really means that you’re partying too hard (see pic above, taken on June 26 as she exited a London club at 3:30am three weeks before her commitment), but don’t want to admit it. Instead, you go with the Molar defence and try to play us as a bunch of patsies. Even Britney was upfront about going bonkers. In this case, the lie is worse than what she’s trying to cover up. Here’s what Mischa told Time Out New York in her first Q&A since the hospital.

I went through a terrible surgery-a wisdom tooth surgery, all four removed. It was a nightmare. I’ve never had surgery before-it all went wrong and I had to have a second surgery and it almost delayed shooting because it was a nightmare to me, because I couldn’t deal with the thought of not getting there on time. So with the travel, and surgery and prep for the show-it was hell.

So, was it the surgery that made you look all bloated and strung out in the pictures too? We just want to get on the officially party line here. When asked if it was drugs, she said no. And if asked if her hospitalisation taught her how to deal with her emotions or the chronic pain from her botched surgery she says, “Not really.”

Just for this, Mischa, we’re not watching you play a pill-popping model on The Beautiful Life. Ok, that’s a lie, but don’t insult our intelligence, OK.

    @TubOfTaft: I thought that was Britbrit's excuse.

The tooth surgery complication was actually stated as soon as she went into that period. They actually said she was in so much pain she needed help being taken to the hospital and called the cops to give her a paparazzi-free escort. Honestly, all FOUR at once? I can see it being too much for someone, especially if they were in bad.

just, fuck you. that's all. it's getting worse here than the fucking consumerist. really?

One of my clients in London just sent me one of Mischa Barton's handbags from her handbag line for Marie Claire (as a gift for closing a big deal for her).

Its quite beautiful with pearlised leather. Not sure how much input Mischa put into the bag but quite nice.

@bboston88: Man, they had to un-hinge my jaw to get mine out *AND* I woke up in the middle of the surgery while they were doing it (though I was so hopped-up on valium that I didn't care.)

Mischa needs to totally woman up.

"So, was it the surgery that made you look all bloated and strung out in the pictures too?"

Actually, that's exactly how I looked post-wisdom-teeth-removal. Your face swells up for three to four days and you're sent home with about a week's worth of Vicodin. Compound the swelling and opiate use with complications, a second surgery (if that actually happened), and a partying lifestyle, and I could see how MB would go a little nuts.

She had the only parts of her body that could be remotely associated with wisdom surgically removed. Sounds about right.

@momof3wildkids: don't know why it didn't link up

She resembles Pete Doherty in more ways than one.....

I'm currently serving a 15 year sentence in a state penitentiary because of my wisdom teeth surgery. :(

  • bboston88

@bboston88: Ok, I did end of in the psyche ward after some wicked menstrual cramps.

  • bboston88

I had all four wisdom teeth taken out at once with complications. I got some nasty dry sockets (as enjoyable as they sound!). I dry heaved when I tried a Vicodin and then just dealt with it. I did not, however, end up in the psyche ward. Come on girl!

  • Atilla the Bun

@Conchie Birdie: But what kind of "minor surgery" puts somebody in a psych ward? She might as well have said a bad home perm put her there and it would have been more believable.

  • Experiment626

Wisdom teeth surgery... I'll remember that excuse the next time I take too many drugs and get caught. But I guess you can only use it once so maybe I'll save it for something REALLY big.

  • Conchie Birdie

She sounds like a typical, really-bad, try-to-cover-all-bases liar. The first rule in an excuse is to keep it short and simple - like it can stand on its own. Had she merely said, "I had what should've been a minor surgery go wrong" I might've contemplated believing it for a second or two.

Although with her physical state it would be really hard to believe anything she could have said.

@son of spam: My gosh, I forgot that he was so beautiful back in the day.

  • Deric

@lionel-mandrake: Or...she could just be hopped up on Vikes and Xanies.

  • Smitros

Teeth can be so tired they hurt.

    Skied up
    Weaved the fu*k up
To top it off, looked beat up
With two crack fiends huggin' your seed up

  • Cheap Shot

Seriously, this is depressing me. She was like one of the hottest (as in fine as hell) actors out there with a perfect (at least to me) body.

I don't know if she could ever go back.

  • Deric

    Her excuse has no teeth.

  • son of spam

    Mischa in happier days.

  • Mount_Prion

    Surgery.

    Read: painkillers.

  • TubOfTaft

Mischa, it wasn't the surgery that made you go bonkers, it was the syphilis.
