Katie Holmes Protected From Paparazzi By Lygon Street Locals

I really do like hearing about international celebrities wandering around hassle free when they’re working in Australia. I may be delusional, but I like to think of my fellow Australians as relaxed, casual types who are unfazed by fame and prefer to keep things “real” which is why folks who cannot walk around Los Angeles without being accosted by the press love visiting our Great Southern Land.

Sure, Australia has Jamie Fawcett-like morons running around with cameras and making anything resembling a normal life impossible from time to time – but we also have menfolk who are unafraid to get punchy when it comes to defending a lady celebrity’s honour.

Bodyguards would not normally offer protection for the paparazzi. But photographers chasing Katie Holmes oddly found themselves being rescued from a fight by the Hollywood actress’s bodyguard in Carlton last Friday.

A witness to the stoush said Holmes ducked into San Churro chocolate shop on Lygon St while on a break filming horror flick Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark. Six paparazzi then tried to photograph her through the shop’s front window.

“Then this table of tough guys got up and began yelling at the photographers to leave the lady alone,” the witness, who did not wished to be named, said. He said an argument then started between the two groups.

“These guys began pushing and threatening the photographers and it started to get pretty scary,” he said. “All of a sudden her bodyguard, who looked like a big version of Tom Sellick, came out of the shop and broke up the fight. He definitely saved the paparazzi from being bashed.”

Even though I really shouldn’t condone violence, part of me feels really patriotic after reading this article.
