Jasmine Fiore’s Car Shows Struggle

We have to give murdered model Jasmine Fiore a posthumous “You go girl!” Cops found her abandoned car and say the inside shows signs of a definite struggle. The inside’s covered with blood that looks “like finger-painting.” [Baker City Herald]

@AndPreciousLittleofThat: Yeah, I read the article in the news and those were the words of the police. I didn't find it disrespectful, just descriptive of the alleged crime scene.

  • Aaron Altman

@Gabriel Snyder: Thanks, Gabe. I'd agree, and would guess that Andrew might've re-thought his phrasing if he'd seen some of the comments afterward.

  • momof3wildkids

@Gabriel Snyder: Your action was much appreciated.

@Aaron Altman: Haven't talked to Andrew about it yet (night editors get to sleep), but I read the original as a really misguided if sincere attempt to pay tribute to the fact that she fought back. Whatever it was, I made the edit when I saw it this morning.

  • partypants

Jesus Christ she's built like an avatar.

  • jasonelias

@Aaron Altman: I was going to write a few sentences but "Ugh" pretty much covers it.

  • RheaPollstry

Okay, this is something that has been bothering me for a while. Some months ago there was a story about a kid in NYC who killed himself by jumping off the roof of his school and people were making comments like, "I guess he won't be needing a date for the prom." Shortly after that Natasha Richardson died and there was a huge outpouring of grief in the comments on every post about her. I don't get it. I guess some deaths are just more mock-worthy than others?

@MisterHippity: I didn't know that I needed to make a point on this site. Just an observation really. Sorry to thread jack.

@Aaron Altman: I still haven't forgotten the creepy breezy tone of that article about the Iraqi puppy. Can't recall many items by that writer after that post, to be honest. I'm glad this one got edited before those of us on the west coast even had time to see it.

@MisterHippity: MisterHippity, you are like a breath of Spring air on a dour morning post.

    @skybarn: Ugh.

  • Aaron Altman

@SarahHeartburn: That probably won't happen, but do you remember when a writer got taken to task for that video post of the soldiers throwing a dog or cat or some other animal off of a cliff? I wonder if that might happen here.

  • SarahHeartburn

@MisterHippity: Why don't they just take the damn post down?

  • Aaron Altman

Would love for Andrew to please explain the "you go girl" stuff which has now been removed from this post. I'm hoping it was just a poorly-executed attempt at snark.

  • MisterHippity

@Wrapitup: I agree aboiut the original version. The post has since been edited to remove the "girl power cheeriness" part.

  • MisterHippity

@heywhat: None of the commenters HERE did that, so what's your point?

Most of the comments below refer to a tasteless phrase that was in the original post, and has since been removed.

  • Aaron Altman

    @Wrapitup: Yep.

  • MisterHippity

@Novaload Welcomes the Returning Jezuits !: Looks like they did. No reference made to the original .. just quietly removed the offensive parts.

  • MisterHippity

@KentuckyBabe: Gawker edited the post to remove the tasteless part.

It used to say something about giving her a "posthumous you go girl!"

The early comments in this thread no longer make sense in the context of the edited version.

  • picardia

    @Wrapitup: Well said.

  • Novaload Is Just Plain Novaload

@HopeAliquippa: I read it the exact same way the first time.

  • KentuckyBabe

@ObamaIsMyPresident: I know that the post was a bit graphic but is it wrong for us to know how she died. I feel like I'd want people to know what happened to me. It is so upsetting to think of how brutal it was.

  • easternsike

@AndPreciousLittleofThat: I think those were the cops words, it's also printed in the Baker City Herald.

  • blix

@Wrapitup: Thank you for elouquently expressing the sentiment that my under-caffeinated mind could not.

  • AndPreciousLittleofThat

    "Finger painting?" Jesus.

This is pretty tacky, Gawker. How about a little respect for the dead, huh?

    AndPreciousLittleofThat

  • Wrapitup

The overtly sexual photograph combined with the way too explicit description of the woman's death struggle and the odd girl power cheeriness is making me feel queasy too early in the day. Maybe you were going for dark humor or sarcasm but it's not working here.

  • heywhat

On every entertainment website that posts something about this girl's murder, I stupidly go to the comments section. And without fail about half of the commentors call her a whore and/or make crude jokes about her looks and the reasons why she was killed. It goes way past dark humor and is just cruel and tasteless.

Ew. A reminder to continue hitting "next" when I see this particular byline.

  • AvisBabawaba

A new low for Gawker here; extremely bad taste.

If this post were a comment, I'd recommend banning.

    UGH.

  • squinko

This ia a pretty horrible post. It's not even funny in a dark-humor sort of way.

  • Novaload Is Just Plain Novaload

You need to change that "You go girl."
That is grotesque, unfunny, and will bring karma upon you. Seriously. GTFO.

  • aneyelidsflutter

@ObamaIsMyPresident: jesus, really? there's dark humour and then there's THAT.

  • lolababy

Aw, yeah, girl! Way to try and not be murdered! Way to not let the man keep your survival instincts and abject terror down, until, of course, he finally does!

I'm not even to say classy sarcastically, that was just fucking tacky.

  • SarahHeartburn

@ObamaIsMyPresident: Exacltly. I'm sorry, but this is grotesque.

    SarahHeartburn

  • ObamaIsMyPresident

More info i didn't need to know. The way I interpret it is that she died terrified and with a lot of pain.
