I cannot help but feel somehow responsible for inadvertently publicising Short Stack a month before their album went on sale. And now look what’s happened! They’re number one! Which means the illiterate youth were right all along – this ancient nanna has no idea about contemporary music!

Short Stack’s debut album ‘Stack Is The New Black’ stormed the number 1 position on the ARIA album chart this week. The three-piece from New South Wales’ Central Coast has accomplished what no other Australian music act has successfully achieved – using the combined powers of SMS, YouTube and MySpace to amass a following that’s growing by the second.
Short Stack (Shaun Diviney guitar / lead vocals, Andy Clemmensen bass / vocals and Bradie Webb drums / keyboards) are undoubtedly one of the hottest young bands in Australia. Their current single “Sway Sway Baby” was the highest debuting single on the ARIA Singles Chart this year entering at #2.
The boys from Budgewoi also hold the enviable title of Australia’s biggest band on YouTube with over 2.5 million views of the Short Stack TV series and video clips. They have racked up over four million plays on MySpace, with over one million plays for their second single Princess alone. The band also won the coveted
Channel [V] Oz Artist of the Year with a staggering 400,000+ votes.
Live shows and touring has always been a driving force for the band to connect with their growing army of fans – starting out with local community youth nights to touring Australia supporting international bands. Short Stack’s first headlining tour “The Princess Ball” was a sell-out as well as their subsequent national “Sway Sway Baby Tour” which saw the boys visiting a number of regional cities. On all their tours Short Stack has spent time meeting their fans through countless amounts of personal appearances.
Short Stack will embark on their biggest tour to date, touring nationally in December on the ‘Stack Is The New Black’ Tour.

The ARIA charts aren’t based on sales, they’re based on distribution. So although they may have shipped out hundreds of thousands of discs to stores, there’s no indication any of them were actually bought.
i may be wrong but i’ve been led to believe that ARIA chart positions ARE based on actual sales but accreditations (ie gold and platinum sales) are based on distributions. but ARIA only report sales figures from major distributors so there’s always room for inaccuracies.
short stack reaching no.1 is another indication that we live in an effed up world run by tweens…
Didn’t Casey Donovan’s fantastic debut album go number 1 as well? ARIA charts lack all credibility (if we didn’t already know that) when you have 14 yo girls at the steering wheel. You only have to look at the audio enema that is the top40 charts to see that talent has gone on strike in 2009, and the strike breakers are a mishmash of bubblegum pop, hilarious faux-gangsta rap tryhards, and emo kids who learnt their trade on Guitar Hero.
I wouldn’t worry too much about death threats Jess from a bunch of kiddies that can only communicate via bastardised words on SMS. They would need their mum to drop them off in the Tarago for the hit, especially if its on a weekend when the bus timetables are less frequent.

i skimmed through a review bernard zuel did of the short stack album. got the impression he liked it. i’ve lost all respect for that guy as a music critic… aaahhh. feel better now, i really needed to get that off my chest
I just found this ongoing ’short stack vs the pensioners war’ today, and have to throw in my anecdote. When they played on Rove, I stupidly posted my opinion about their terrible performance and the fact that they look like females on twitter, and immediately got abused by short stack fans. I’m fine with people defending bands they like, but no one can defend short stack against claims they look like girls..

and yes, tweens do like them! but yes, incase you hadn’t noticed, your living in a world with people like me who cant spell properly,have bad haircuts, and like different music. we also have strong views on disney stars, either obsessing over them or absolutely hating them.
short stack do not look like girls, they do not all look the same, and do not have bad hair.
