There is no chance this will be as good as the anime, but it could still be highly entertaining.

I'm still not sure how they're going to do those crazy hallucination scenes, though. Obviously with some kind of CG, but most of what makes those great in the original is Otomo's art style.

Warner Brothers should consider a treatment wherein: Hollywood is destroyed and replaced with Neo-Hollywood. Ari Emmanuel is the Akira character, and so is cryogenically frozen. Will Smith will play the carefree protagonist, and Tom Cruise will be Smith's best-friend-turned-nemesis after suffering from a crippling inferiority complex for years.
