Sarah Jessica And Matthew Fleeing To Brooklyn?
We knew there was a reason we’re leaving the neighbourhood. Sarah Jessica Parker and her mighty steed Matthew Broderick might be movin’ on over to Park Slope. The New York Post thinks they’ve found the family’s apartment.
Now that they’re the proud parents of three chillens, it might be time for the actor couple to bust out of their simply tiny West Village townhouse and into more respectable mansiony digs. Perfect then that artsy power couple Jennifer Connelly and Paul Bettany sold their Prospect Park West manse last year. A company called Harken Pretty purchased the home for $US8.45 million last December, and the Post thinks that simply must have something to do with SJP’s production company Pretty Matches. It just must! Whoever bought the palace is gutting it completely. After all the work you put into it, Jennifer…
Parker has shown an interest in Park Slope creatively recently, snapping up the right’s to Amy Sohn’s decadent take on the Park Slope mummy-cult Prospect Park West. It could become a TV series! Because everyone loved Lipstick Jungle so much they’ll like it even better when it’s about mums! In Brooklyn!
Oh man, get us outta here.

@naugahydeinplainsight: Ha! (a test)
Say, is this the 'nice' part of Brooklyn?
great_white_snark
@MrHaroHaro: I figured so I read it. Thank you.
SJP is a Miranda after all... what's next? Dumping Matthew for a woman that looks like a man?
Heywoodjablome
@MrHaroHaro: Intended as a reply to Renata Halpern.
Williamsburg is alright if you can deal with all the posers but all the cool people are going to Bushwick.
Why not be a pioneer? Bed-Stuy. And I don't mean debatable Clinton Hill.
@[www.nytimes.com]
@zibby: Fantastic.
@restless: Well, there is Char 4 on Smith street. So you were sorta right.
@restless: duh, "charm". Char is on the burgers.
@Renata Halpern: Industrial, but young. Over-priced, and a lot of apt's are not in very good shape. All in all, pass. Fort Green is hot, Greenpoint gives a lot of sq. ft. for your buck, Prospect Heights has the same brownstone charm as Park Slope but slightly cheaper. Kensington and off of Ocean Ave, even larger spaces, but you're getting far out there on the train. Basically, the farther away from Manhattan, the cheaper it gets.
I say go for it. When you see how much further your dollar goes, and the kind of space you can get, you'll be hooked. Not to mention it's beauty and char, which it has a lot of. The coolest people live in Brooklyn (ahem, self-servingly raises hand).
Oh, and for the die hard Manhattanites on here, you're so right: the B&T crowd IS horrible. It's such an ordeal to sit on a train. Please, stay where you are!!
I kind of want to move to Brooklyn but my parents (who grew up there) are insisting I move back to Manhattan. I write "back" because that's where I was born. Since I'm young and still sort of dependent on them, they get a say but how about my say?! I'll be paying for almost all of it so I want to pay less by living in Brooklyn but they say I'll pay a ton to commute every day and such. What are everyone's thoughts on Williamsburg?!
i've already seen a few nightmarish pr media monster moms updating their facebook status to brag about their new SJP proximity...
i'm so unfriending my nightmare monster moms
great_white_snark
@GypsyStrats: I dunno, a lot of people are still jockeying for position.
zibby
@a boy and his dog: bankers, and the people who loathe them
thatgirlinnewyork
@Maujer: don't worry--amy sohn can't write her way out of a "back to the land" eco-friendly bag
thatgirlinnewyork
@depardoo: Let's just say I think she'll frequent The Old Carriage House and Flatbush Farm.
zibby
@mathnet:
you can lead a whore to culture but you can't make her think...
willow150
@Gunsetpark: Sarah Jessica Parker walks into a bar. The bartender says, "Hey lady, why the long face?"
zibby
This is just to get Matthew out of Manhattan so he can't fuck around on her anymore.
@DeerDog: This isn't exactly above-the-foal news. You don't need a Gallop poll to realize that they weren't meant for Mane Street USA. Hopefully the paparrazi won't be a few lengths behind them when they move, and they can finally know the peace of a photo finish.
@MsWinstonSmith: Well, it's still full of lesbians and feels like a 90s college town, so don't write it off yet!
Bulkington
@HiredGoons:
i saw sarah jessica so often rushing through the west village i'd recognize her even if she were not a famous lady
she is pretty lady in person and oh so thin
God please let the world end before a show about Brooklyn moms hits the air.
@naugahydeinplainsight: And really, there shouldn't be much to do to the place but canter on in and slap a fresh colt of paint on the stalls!
for sure@Queen of the Passive Aggressives:
belladonnamancini
@mathnet: All you neighsayers pushed them out of Manhattan.
OrneryBabe
@Richard Petty Bourgeoisie: Nice. Hopefully the sports crowd will get it.
A TV series? If I want to see whining kids in strollers with their doting mom's I'll go to whole foods.
Queen of the Passive Aggressives
Will that be their mane residence?
depardoo
If she did buy it, you know all that painfully restored brown woodwork of Jennifer's will be gone and it will be wainscoting,wainscoting,wainscoting.
And put the orchid over there. OK, James Wilkie, I think we're done.
nicepony
@a boy and his dog: That's when I moved to Park Slope, and I'm still in publishing. There's deals to be had, but you're right, lots of us "creative types" moved into outlying areas like Prospect Heights, Crown Heights, Kensington, etc.
God, she's such a Miranda.
I hope they aren't saddled with a sub-prime mortgage.
procrastination_state
@rudi_freude: I can understand the move--money just goes further out there. They may even have room for a pony.
Oy Veh (Informality Reigns)
@rudi_freude: Now, now.. Just be happy that they are leaving Manhattan. I mean, REALLY, don't look a gift horse in the mouth.
Oy Veh (Informality Reigns)
Lipstick Jungle wasn't about moms? Oh, right, no kids.
They need to take off their blinders.
depardoo
@Unsolicited Advice:
They couldn't have picked a better place for the fillies to sow their wild oats.
rudi_freude
I'm sure the abundance of converted barns and stables in the West Village is just making her nervous - I'm sure Matthew would hate for her to startle and bolt.
@a boy and his dog: well the ppl i know there are gawker writers and a chick who works at trader joe's so it is definitely a nightmare of million dollar rents.
Marion Loretta Elwell and Tabitha Hodge sound like two nursing home residents to me.
Eh, live in the Slope and love it. Richard, sad to hear your leaving!
@naugahydeinplainsight:
I'm just glad to see that Brooklyn won the derby. It was neck and neck for a while, but the longshots faded and the odds-on favorite pulled away from the competition.
Park Slope was a cool neighborhood when it was filled with lesbians in the 90s.
MsWinstonSmith
@Unsolicited Advice: Whether this stampede is spur of the moment or well-planned, I'm sure they'll get a warm welcome to the neigh-borhood.
@naugahydeinplainsight:
Just another example of fickle celebrities changing horses in midstream.
Most of the people I know fled park slope ten years ago, when rent hikes pushed out entry-level publishing industry single people. I can't imagine who lives there now.
a boy and his dog
@SidAndFinancy: I think you win!
GypsyStrats
@rudi_freude: Or Saddle Brook? Colts Neck?
"Chillens," Richard? Are you channeling Ethel Waters today?
DaeSu
@blix: They were trying to stall the move, as they bridle at the idea of leaving Manhattan, but there's no choice now that they have such a foal house.
@blix: All the Kings County horse and all the Kings County men, couldn't get me to visit Brooklyn again.
And there's no Jimmy Choo out there. Where will she get herself shod?
depardoo
Are there good restaurants there? Where will they strap on the feed bag?
depardoo
@mathnet: To err is human, to househunt equine.
@TriedandTrue:
Couldn't they move to Whinnypeg, instead?
rudi_freude
@TriedandTrue:
People have really been making hay with those beard rumors, but I don't buy them.
@mathnet: I may be beating a dead horse by mentioning the rumors of their not so stable relationship and Matthew horsing around with younger men and women but I am willing to bet they will be moving their herd back to Manhattan before too long
TriedandTrue
@Richard Lawson: If the goal is a stable household.
Wait, Amy Sohn gets to write this and not me?
There's no justice.
Maujer
With all the recent leaks, SJP should consider a new Secretariat.
Moving on up...
To an apartment...
That cost 9 million dollars...
And still has roaches...
@mathnet: They need to rein it in with these ridiculous baby names..
@mathnet:
Slow clop! clop! clop!
rudi_freude
They won't stay furlong.
Marion Loretta Elwell and Tabitha Hodge? Bray it ain't so.
From the west village to gowanus heights? will their power friends travel all the way out to Brooklyn? wasn't this a plot point on SJP's privileged sex-and-shoes show? who gives a shit? Maybe my dog on the way to the park?
Classic quote from art school teacher, living in NYC: "I live in in Brooklyn, in Park Slope." Student: "Where's that?" Teacher: "Oh, it's where Manhattanites come to breed."
True. True.
