Sarah Jessica And Matthew Fleeing To Brooklyn?

We knew there was a reason we’re leaving the neighbourhood. Sarah Jessica Parker and her mighty steed Matthew Broderick might be movin’ on over to Park Slope. The New York Post thinks they’ve found the family’s apartment.

Now that they’re the proud parents of three chillens, it might be time for the actor couple to bust out of their simply tiny West Village townhouse and into more respectable mansiony digs. Perfect then that artsy power couple Jennifer Connelly and Paul Bettany sold their Prospect Park West manse last year. A company called Harken Pretty purchased the home for $US8.45 million last December, and the Post thinks that simply must have something to do with SJP’s production company Pretty Matches. It just must! Whoever bought the palace is gutting it completely. After all the work you put into it, Jennifer…

Parker has shown an interest in Park Slope creatively recently, snapping up the right’s to Amy Sohn’s decadent take on the Park Slope mummy-cult Prospect Park West. It could become a TV series! Because everyone loved Lipstick Jungle so much they’ll like it even better when it’s about mums! In Brooklyn!

Oh man, get us outta here.

Say, is this the 'nice' part of Brooklyn?

@MrHaroHaro: I figured so I read it. Thank you.

SJP is a Miranda after all... what's next? Dumping Matthew for a woman that looks like a man?

Williamsburg is alright if you can deal with all the posers but all the cool people are going to Bushwick.
Why not be a pioneer? Bed-Stuy. And I don't mean debatable Clinton Hill.

    @zibby: Fantastic.

@restless: Well, there is Char 4 on Smith street. So you were sorta right.

  • restless

@restless: duh, "charm". Char is on the burgers.

@Renata Halpern: Industrial, but young. Over-priced, and a lot of apt's are not in very good shape. All in all, pass. Fort Green is hot, Greenpoint gives a lot of sq. ft. for your buck, Prospect Heights has the same brownstone charm as Park Slope but slightly cheaper. Kensington and off of Ocean Ave, even larger spaces, but you're getting far out there on the train. Basically, the farther away from Manhattan, the cheaper it gets.

I say go for it. When you see how much further your dollar goes, and the kind of space you can get, you'll be hooked. Not to mention it's beauty and char, which it has a lot of. The coolest people live in Brooklyn (ahem, self-servingly raises hand).

Oh, and for the die hard Manhattanites on here, you're so right: the B&T crowd IS horrible. It's such an ordeal to sit on a train. Please, stay where you are!!

  • Renata Halpern

I kind of want to move to Brooklyn but my parents (who grew up there) are insisting I move back to Manhattan. I write "back" because that's where I was born. Since I'm young and still sort of dependent on them, they get a say but how about my say?! I'll be paying for almost all of it so I want to pay less by living in Brooklyn but they say I'll pay a ton to commute every day and such. What are everyone's thoughts on Williamsburg?!

  • great_white_snark

i've already seen a few nightmarish pr media monster moms updating their facebook status to brag about their new SJP proximity...

  • MargotheDoeEyedFMachine

This is just to get Matthew out of Manhattan so he can't fuck around on her anymore.

@DeerDog: This isn't exactly above-the-foal news. You don't need a Gallop poll to realize that they weren't meant for Mane Street USA. Hopefully the paparrazi won't be a few lengths behind them when they move, and they can finally know the peace of a photo finish.

  • Bulkington

@MsWinstonSmith: Well, it's still full of lesbians and feels like a 90s college town, so don't write it off yet!

If she did buy it, you know all that painfully restored brown woodwork of Jennifer's will be gone and it will be wainscoting, wainscoting, wainscoting.

@a boy and his dog: That's when I moved to Park Slope, and I'm still in publishing. There's deals to be had, but you're right, lots of us "creative types" moved into outlying areas like Prospect Heights, Crown Heights, Kensington, etc.

I'm sure the abundance of converted barns and stables in the West Village is just making her nervous - I'm sure Matthew would hate for her to startle and bolt.

Classic quote from art school teacher, living in NYC: "I live in in Brooklyn, in Park Slope." Student: "Where's that?" Teacher: "Oh, it's where Manhattanites come to breed."

    True. True.
