Go, Russell Crowe’s Generosity, Go!

russerciseEveryone in the media tends to enjoy taking the piss out of Russell Crowe, but sometimes he does delightful things and it’s important to counter stories of pie eating and phone throwing and Thirty Odd Foot Of Grunts/The Ordinary Fear Of God with tales of the Oscar winning actor being an absolute champion.

Take Russell’s recent generosity when a lady working on his latest film lost her car due to, erm, an explosion.

Multimillionaire Crowe handed a worker on his film 5000 pounds ($10,170) after the woman’s car burst into flames recently. Denise Yarde, 38, had called work to report she would be late for filming at Surrey, in southeast England, after her car burst into flames.

Seems Russell felt a little guilty after Denise pointed out the difference in the number of zeroes in their respective bank accounts.

When she arrived and started telling colleagues about the incident, Crowe made a joke. Yarde light-heartedly reminded the Gladiator star not everyone was as well off as him.

“Well I suppose it’s OK for you Russell. You’ve probably never had to worry about finding five grand for a new car,” she said. Crowe walked away but later approached her with a bundle of cash and told her: “There you go. You can buy a $10,000 car.”

And now Denise drives a SAAB she’s named Russ. Well, I can’t guarantee that last bit, but whatever. Jolly good work, Russell! There’s a poem in this, you know.

    Yes do I know …

When Ms Denise Yarde’s car exploded
Russell gave her a hand, ’cause he’s loaded:
    Doled out five thousand pounds
    Since his wealth just abounds
And Denise’s retort had him goaded!
