The commission for this painting likely originated around 1995, when Jackson and his wife Lisa Marie made a video together for his HIStory song "You Are Not Alone" (written by R. Kelly). The video featured idyllic landscapes and a suggestion of nudity that evoked Maxfield Parrish's painted vision Daybreak and other sensual realist works. If we compare his hairstyle in the painting with his (apparently one-off) 'do in the video, we can surmise that this work is probably a commemoration of this period of his work and his innocent-yet-sensual dalliance with his new wife, rather than some bizarre pedophilic homage to cherubic boys.

I also believe this was prior to R. Kelly being charged (and later aquitted) for filming himself pissing on and fucking a fourteen-year-old girl.
