500 Days Of Potter
Dumbledore could (and should) buy out the American auto industry. Madonna’s dry thrusting leads to tragedy. Google Images will explode within the next few hours. And everyone is mean to the writers!
Teenage Wizard Movie has jumped to the $US100 million mark in the worldwide box office sales. Which poses a fascinating question: Why did the producers of 500 Days of Summer choose this weekend to open stateside? Surely Potter’s box office bonanza comes as no surprise. Did they really think the mopey teens who like ‘meaning music’ were going to snub Potter for uh, the kid from 3rd Rock? SILLY FOOLS! [ Variety ]
Yes! A new movie named Bad Girls is being described as a cross between Lord of the Flies and Heathers. It’s an adaptation of a novel. Bad Girls centres on a wild teenager shipped off to a reform school on a remote Caribbean island. On the island, she and The Others go up against violent drug dealers and killers as they battle their own worst impulses. First step: Kill the Pig! [THR]
Ed Helms! He does things we enjoy. Hopefully, we’ll enjoy his newest movie project Cedar Rapid. Helms will play a sad-sack insurance agent who goes to an industry convention to try to save the jobs of his colleagues. Always the hero, that Helms. [Variety ]
Kevin Smith has confirmed that Clerks and Chasing Amy will be released on Blu-Ray in November 2009 with a few new surprises. Aw! You guys remember Joey Lawrence Adams? Neither do I. [/Film]
A new painfully good looking young person has been cast in Twilight Eclipse. So, you know, Google images is probably a little strained right now! [ THR ]
Todd Phillips, writer/director of The Hangover, is has been hired by Warner Bros to write a new feature called Staycation. What’s it about? We don’t know but there’s rightful suspicion that it will be a “male-driven-laffer.” [ Vairety ]
Fox has tapped portly and lovable John Goodman to star in a new Ben Stiller-produced pilot. [Variety ]
More like solidarity for-never! The Directors union and the Writers union are beefing. Look at this Eff-Off email the head of the DGA sent to the head of SAG. “Of course, these are not normal circumstances “… you’ve repeatedly, and in my opinion unfraternally, attacked the negotiations and contracts of the DGA and other unions in the press and other public forums. So, in the circumstances, I’m very surprised that you would consider yourself to be in a position to convene an event that requires trust and fraternity to have any chance of success.” Good luck on those negotiations, comrades! Bad Girls = Toy Soldiers with girls

@BxgrlJeri: it's super sad to me that the books are even really associated with the movies... they're so different. The movies are a shadow of the books.
@BxgrlJeri: If you're referring solely to Harry Potter, then no--I wouldn't touch this stuff with a ten-foot wizard's staff. If you're referring to the other stuff mentioned above, though, then maybe--I've read Bad Girls and seen Clerks and Chasing Amy. I could listen to Joey Lauren Adams talk forever...or at least for ten minutes, which is longer than most people.

Am I the only person on Earth who has never read one of these books or seen one of these movies?
@registered:
Sorry, yes, Watson!
@registered: Except that incident isn't reported anywhere in the roundup above ... is it? Or am I missing something?
Clearly, 500 Days of Summer was not meant to compete with the Harry Potter crowd. I think it's naive to think anyone counted on it to be a blockbuster. Sleeper hit, probably.

So Bad Girls is just The Beach, with the Leo character wearing a knee-length plaid skirt?
@MisterHippity: I think this refers to an accident at her stage set this week where a couple of workers were killed.
@resipsaloquacious: If you mean Emma Watson (chick in pic) she is 19 and I hear she is starting at Columbia in the fall. Sweet dreams!
Re: 500 Days vs. Harry Potter & The Inkjet Printer - screw you TV, movies do counterprogramming too!
I for one am choosing JGL and animated birds/dance sequences over Hogwarts tonight.
How old is that Rossum? I need to know how dirty I should feel during my weekend fantasies.
Hilarious--I've actually read Bad Girls, and Alex MacCaulay's other books as well. I can't wait to see Megan Fox lying around in bloody ruins. That stuff is nightmarish.

I can't find any reference to Madonna in this roundup. How did her dry thrusting lead to tragedy? Haven't Madonna-thrusts always been kind of tragic?
@MisterHippity:
Oof! Somehow got chopped out in a last minute rush to post. It's back in!
I always thought Joey Lawrence Adams was a much hotter version of Renee Zellwegger.
Too bad she pissed off Harvey or something.
@DahlELama: Just Harry Potter. I love Clerks and Chasing Amy.
All I know is that the Go-Gos better sing the Staycation theme song.
