The Daily Show Investigates Iran’s Hatred For Americans

Ever since we first heard that The Daily Show was sending Jason Jones to Iran to cover the election there, we’ve been anxious to see if they’d be able to find comedy in what was happening there. They did.

In what Jon Stewart billed as the first in a series of reports from Iran, all filmed prior to the election, that they think will “present an interesting snapshot of a nation unaware of what awaits it,” Jones took to the streets to ask ordinary Iranians about their hatred for Americans. Then he visited the home of an Iranian family in search of answers to the same questions, gifting the children with cartons of cigarettes, and they loved him anyway.

  • Funnier than I was expecting, though I wonder how much ‘legs’ this idea has.

The boorish international visitor/dignitary/politician is a juvenile and an unoriginal idea that Sascha Baron Cohen utilised in Borat fairly recently.

Why does American sit-com/comedy insist on sucking the absolute life force out of any comedy writings?

England sets the comedic standard; Fawlty Towers, Only Fools and Horses, The Young Ones, The Mighty Boosh, Yes Prime/Minister, Blackadder, French & Saunders, Bottom, Filthy Rich And Catflap and a few more that had the decency and good taste to know when to let an idea die.
