The Best Thing About Utegate

As far as political scandals go, the current Utegate saga isn’t exactly keeping me on the edge of my seat. It’s not quite the Profumo affair, is it? Perhaps over two years of focusing on the ups and downs of Britney Spears and tracking down hilarious videos of cats doing assorted things has left my brain completely unable to cope with grown up discussion? Nevertheless, I am impressed by journalist Annabel Crabb’s Twitter commentary on the subject. Brain crush alert!

Some highlights for you, folks.

* I am not giving the debate to teh Govt just cause Albanese is reading out my work btw. Actually it’s because he sent me a car yesterday.

Ha!

And I am very much enjoying her description of Kevin Rudd’s assorted hand gestures when saying Something Of Great Importance™.

* Dead Spider is the Rudd hand gesture in which fingers are gently curled and hand extended, palm upwards then jiggled as if weighing justice

* Double dead spider is where both hands do it at once. Mishandled, it can look like an obscene gesture evaluating breasts of passerby

* Interspersed with “Karate chop to stack of roofing tiles” gesture – another favourite Ruddbot move

* No sign of “Gynaecological examination of cow” gesture yet. He only uses that one in times of great emotional sincerity
