Kylie & Jason Are Alright, Still!

As someone who recently had to explain the whole Scott & Charlene phenomenon to a foreigner*, I’ve been thinking about Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan’s relationship lately. Is she feeling the slightest bit sore about not being invited to her former boyfriend’s wedding? Does he ever think about her when he’s belting out disco numbers on stage in Priscilla, Queen Of The Desert? Do either of them ever daydream about that night in the Travel Lodge?

I probably won’t ever know the answer to the last question, but given that Kylie recently attended a performance of Priscilla, Queen Of The Desert and happily posed for photos backstage with her old lover, it’s safe to say the answers to the first two queries are “no” and “yes”, respectively.

Despite devoting pages of his Between The Lines biography to the way in which she broke his heart, there were no hard feelings between former Neighbours heart-throb Jason Donovan and Kylie Minogue when the pop princess attended a performance of stage show Priscilla Queen Of The Desert, in which Donovan stars, at the weekend. Far from Ramsay St, where the pair first fell in love, the couple were reunited in London’s West End Palace Theatre after the production, which pays homage to gay icon Minogue.

Awww. Good to know. And now to celebrate their enduring friendship, let’s watch Especially For You.

OH MY GOD, I REALLY DO LOVE THAT SONG.

*We passed a poster for Melbourne band Scott & Charlene’s Wedding on the street and I spent ten minutes trying to help my Brazilian friend Daniel understand who Scott & Charlene were “back in the day” and just how enthusiastically both Australia and Britain fell head over heels in love with the mulleted pair all those years ago.

I SO wanted to like Kylie in this video: the hair, the clothes, the teeth, the figure, and of course Jason, or a boyfriend with Jason’s fashion sense, or for that matter any boyfriend at all! I love the look on his face at about 3:10.

I have a feeling that explaining the Scott & Charlene phenomenon would have been a lot easier than explaining to today’s youngsters what Kylie was doing at the start of the video with pen and paper and why they didn’t just text/tweet/facebook/whatever each other.
