Joe Jackson: Plugging Away
Oh, Joe Jackson. Deceased Michael’s monster of a father held a press conference today with Al Sharpton in which he managed to lovingly honour his tragically-fated son, promote his “record company” and just appear all around looney-tunes.
Obviously the Michael Jackson story is big news, and the man’s father has a right to say what he wants about his dead son, but the twinkly gleam in his eye as he revels in the press attention just chills our blood a little bit, the record company plug being the cherry on top.
Sad that even in death, MJ still isn’t free of his scary father.

@beefer: Bravo.
This clip is the ultimate coup for Michael: Papa Joe was someone that was 1. actually weirder than he was, and 2. someone that made you understand Michael's own "idiosyncrasies" to such an extent that you may actually have felt something akin to pity for him instead of repulsion...
@FarleyPapus: Didn't Joe and Katherine get divorced?
@Midge: *In strolls the beat it reference* sorry!
I_b_hatin
@soonbanned: *finger up nose* well yah, but... as soon as you start hardballing these types they shut up. I'd give the reporter some credit and say he was hoping to keep Baddad here talking and further hang himself.
deltasierra
Please please please can we start a weekly feature, People Who Desperately Need to Sit Down and STF Up? I vote for this creep.
deltasierra
@beefer: Reptilian smear! I think I love you. Very eloquently stated, Joe just needs to slither back under his rock and leave his family the fuck alone.
I_b_hatin
No wonder MJ was uber messed up.
jinxykb
@OrneryBabe: I don't even need him to shed a tear - just wipe the goddamn SMILE off your face you creep!!!
@FreedomFries: or Mark Geragos. But he's not quite the vulture that Gloria, Al and Jesse are. Just a scum.
@MrInBetween: Right? How do you NOT hate yourself when you are the product of those loins? Shudder. There's a special place in hell for the Joe Jacksons of the world.
MJ did name his children after his parents by using their names as his children's middle names. He may not have despised them as much as we do. He may not have completely realized how much they screwed him up.
Another tragic consequence of Michael Jackson's death.
His father is back in the media spotlight.
And his father is a total dickhead.
@AndyWhoreWall: I'm mixed about this. While I agree that a lot of people will be unabashed opportunists, a lot of artists were genuinely influenced by MJ. I wouldn't question the motives of people like Usher, Madonna, Timberlake, etc. even Britney Spears, taking part in a tribute. They'd probably do it for nothing.
But sure - a lot of assholes will try to claim some spotlight who shouldn't and get paid lots of money. Those people will obviously suck balls.
@OrneryBabe: "I remain confused as to why Al Sharpton needed to fly out to LA to "advise" the family."
Because Al & Jesse have nothing better to do these days than to feed off the carcass. That is, of course, until the next manufactured outrage they both need to be part of.
Front_Towards_Enemy
@MrInBetween: I always did wonder how & why Micheal Jackson became so screwed-up.
You're right; this video says it all.
Front_Towards_Enemy
Just like Bobby Boucher's father showing up at the end of The Waterboy, and about as intelligent.
Martiniman
@CoffeyWasHere: Because Al Sharpton & Jesse Jackson are nothing but attention whores who will say or do anything so they can be in-front of a camera.
Front_Towards_Enemy
@Atilla the Bun: She did not. She attempted to, but went back to court after his molestation trial. Her parental rights were restored but she got a big check to give full custody to MJ.
Scooter34
@CassetteLove: My understanding is that Rowe legally terminated her parental relationship with the children. She still has a biological relationship to them, which gives her more standing than some random third party. But courts are generally reluctant to grant parental rights to people who have knowingly and voluntarily given up those rights.
Joe Jackson's such a gross guy of a certain generation. It's weird to still see them, most of them are gone. The ones I knew drank themselves to death. Sad someone who possibly had something to give like Michael is gone yet a bottom feeder and his abuser is still walking the earth at this late date.
@PandoraSpocks:
I'm thinking Janet will be paying, her pockets run very deep she's even paying for her brother Jermaines child support
Dena Benj
I don't think my hate for this man is rational but when I look at video from Michael in the early J5 days, he was such a sweet little boy and to think this man terrorized him raises my blood pressure when I see him milking his death.
Dena Benj
what a fucking scumbag.
Joseph Ward
@OrneryBabe: Oops - that should read, "Yesterday, in response to . . ., I posted this. Seems like I'm attending the Joe Jackson School of Fail.
OrneryBabe
@MrInBetween: Yes. Yes, sadly, it does. It all makes sense now.
OrneryBabe
@vampz4cash: Listening to the video, it sounds like he's saying he's extablishing a record company with martians.
Oh, no - "extablished"? "Fixin' t'happen"? Really? My people, my people . . .
And by the way, you forgot "axin."
OrneryBabe
@kookla: I remain confused as to why Al Sharpton needed to fly out to LA to "advise" the family.
I'd like to think anyone is better than Joe Jackson, though.
OrneryBabe
@kookla: I fear that next we will see this horse's ass attempting to do the moonwalk.
OrneryBabe
Okay. Yesterday, in response to momof3wildkids criticizing Joe Jackson for not displaying any apparent sadness that he lost a son:
"I'm no apologizer for Joe Jackson, but his son died suddenly and without warning. I'll allow that the man might be in shock, which could explain his oddly inappropriate behavior."
Today? I can't buy shock as an excuse when, in interview after interview, he refers Michael not as the son he lost but the international superstar. And now he's plugging a record company? What the fuck is wrong with this guy?
You know, we've gone all this time without ever hearing Joe Jackson speak. There's obviously a reason for that. Dude has got to stop talking to the media now. Like, go shed a tear or three. Someone, somewhere, needs to make it stop.
OrneryBabe
I like how Joe keeps saying that it's too bad Michael wasn't alive to see how much people appreciated him. Did I miss something? Did Michael not get enough attention while he was living?
peteignatius
I did enjoy the look on Sharpton's face while Joe was talking on CNN this AM. It was such a what-the-fuck-is-he-gonna-say-let's-get-...! expression.
Carol Gardens
My favorite necromarketer was the premo Coretta Scott King, on Cavett, telling him coyly, "I am really a singer." Smile. Wait. But Dick had too much class to bite.
So she sold ashes from the Martin in nickle bags on East 123rd and then copyrighted everything and sold that and Madoff with the loot!
My sense is that Joe's obsession with the Blu-Ray is that there's a fight over the footage of the final rehearsal video. Rev. Al and Lou Farrakhan seem to be fighting for their cut of the profits too.
uncle_wiggly
@bluebears: This case really isn't as straightforward as say two parents dying in a car accident and an aunt being named guardian.
Doesn't the issue occur, however, when someone disputes the guardianship? In this case, Rowe, the elder kids' biological mother- she isn't what I think the court would deem a "third party".
@Scout 3.0: What you said.
@CassetteLove: Heard the same thing about their living arrangement. I just don't understand how this entire family could mismanage finances and legal issues.
They may put on a united front now, but it's obvious that the dysfunction starts from the top. Meaning Joe, of course.
@AndyWhoreWall: Let me guess. Corey Feldman?
@CoffeyWasHere: Please. Consider the sources. Jesse and Al are the biggest ambulance chasers. And no problem standing in someone else's limelight.
It takes Joe Jackson to make Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson look like almost decent human beings. I knew those two would find a way to weasel themselves to the microphone banks over Michael's death.
Just waiting for Gloria Allred to show up so we have an Asshole Trifecta.
FreedomFries
@CaptainFantastic: Obviously you didn't see Papa Jackson dancing and clapping in the audience of the BET Awards last night. And taking all the credit for "inventing" the J5. Awkward.
@CassetteLove: Honestly if you set up a will and name a guardian for your children in the event of your death a third party would have a fairly hard time contesting that in court unless they prove the named guardian was in some way unfit. Yes children aren't property but these sort of estate plans get probated every day. Its really preferable, shouldn't the parents have a right to decide who should raise and care for their children in the event of there death?
@CoffeyWasHere: "angry, spectral moonwalk" is my favorite image of the week.
I find it interesting that they acknowledge Joe as a liability in that they are rolling out the 'mother' as the one going after custody and the estate.
Poor Michael. RIP.
Joe Jackson is like Bing Crosby and Ike Turner all rolled into one.
Mymoustache
Okay, I just found out his old lawyer has a copy of the will that the family hasn't seen yet (meaning, I think, he has the only copy). TMZ is my source on this matter.
@spotted-dog: There is a will. MJ's attorney has it. He hasn't filed it yet. He has 30 days to file. Nobody knows what's in it.
Scout 3.0
@airvault: Joe and Katherine were the original Jon + Kate!

Two comments on this: 1. I was curious enough to attend Joe Jackson's 80th bday party in Chicago--just to see who'd show up. I wasn't surprised at all that NOT ONE of his offspring showed up for the party, which was all over the Chicago news. Instead, he showed up with a bunch of shady looking "relatives" from Gary, Ind. When your own children--or wife--don't come to your 80th birthday party, something is definitely wrong. and 2. Now I understand how and why Jesse and Al got involved. He wanted as much media attention HE could get, and he knew they'd bring it. At least MJ is finally free of this creep, but I am really worried about his children. How in hell did this monster outlive Michael Jackson?
FarleyPapus
@spotted-dog: I'm not sure if they have their hands on an actual will yet. Last I heard, they were still looking for it (although, shouldn't a lawyer have that thing?)
Also, if Mrs. Jackson gets the kids, they will basically be taken care of by nannies, like a lot of rich families with multiple kids.
Joe is still a motherfucker, though.
Utterly sickening. What a vile human being.
Slanguage
Joe is most of what is wrong with that family and was wrong with MJ.
A parent does have quite a bit of control over who takes care of their minor kids after the parent's death. If a parent includes a guardianship provision in his/her will, the Court will almost always grant the parents' wishes unless the court finds the guardian blatantly unsuitable for some reason. If the parent uses even a modicum of common sense in their selection and gets the guardian's permission prior to placing the provision in the will, the court will in all likelihood grant the deceased parent's wishes.
I think this sick-o's abuse is partly responsible for Michael's drive.
A friend of mine became insanely driven after escaping an abusive father- and that guy is off the charts successful for his age.
Of course Michael crumbled in the end. You can't keep living your life to spite someone or prove someone wrong.
walnuts
@TedSez: Damn. You beat me to it.
The video of this doddering, evil clown explains everything -- the lost childhood, the chimp, the pedophilia, the 13 plastic surgeries, the prescription drugs, the Neverland ranch, the $400 million in debts, the baby-dangling, everything. The video doesn't excuse any of it -- well, maybe the chimp -- but it explains everything.
@spotted-dog: He can place the request, but that doesn't mean the court has to agree to it, only consider it in case of a dispute. Kids aren't property; you can't "will" them to someone else.
@airvault: as repugnant as his actions are (and have been), this isn't a surprise at all. i think people have heard about him, and so think they can grasp his repulsive behavior, but when confronted with it they are shocked. i am, too. but from every single thing i've ever read about joe, this is utterly genuine and consistent.
spotted-dog
@Scout 3.0: i'm glad you brought that up. someone please answer me this: rumors are swirling that mj's wanted his mother to have custody of his children, and that it's stated in his will. who has ever heard of this? i mean, his parents are still together, no? seems odd that mj would specify his mother, as if everyone's gonna be like "everything's fine. the mother got them."
spotted-dog
@vampz4cash: That German freak is fixing to 'plasticate' MJ and put him on display with Bubbles.
Is he really going on about that?
Does he really wanna
take those kids home tonight?
@TedSez: i assumed it was that joe jackson as well. shoulda known better.
@Scout 3.0: Good lawyers could have and possibly have structured his estate to give Joe the least access to both finances and the kids. I really, really hope he did that before his passing. If not, he has left his own kids vulnerable to some of the same manipulation and abuse he himself sufferred. Though I could see MJ being so afraid of or delusional about his own mortality that he did nothing of the kind.
This is a quasar of sad. Every week I find myself huffing and puffing like Foghorn Leghorn over some new revelation of the End of Shame, but this is special. This reptilian smear of a man singlemindedly fucked his children out of a normal life and drove them like pack mules into the land of batshit. He is the Platonic ideal of shitty stage parenting. He makes Mama Rose look like Dr. Spock.
Sure it's become a modern tradition to turn celebri-death into a trade-show spectacular of double-sized tribute issues and memorial video montages, but really. Really. Go ahead Joe. Keep shilling. Every week we need a new cynosure of human awfulness. With Ike Turner in the ground and Phil Spector in the clink we need somebody new. Sure, you haven't actually killed anyone. You're not a dictator or a Aspirin tamperer. Just a miserable old shit who keeps pimping out his disturbed son into the hereafter. Perfect.
beefer
Maybe that Tom-Tom witch doctor can get the Nation of Islam to take him out.
Is someone standing right next to him feeding answers? When asked about Obama's note, someone else replies "that's a private note" just a moment before Joe.
@PandoraSpocks: They might also be waiting for the reading of the will to see if MJ had any burial requests.
Scout 3.0
Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Joe Jackson. Rats and vultures all of them.
ColbertNation
@vampz4cash: They don't have any money to pay for it, is my guess.
PandoraSpocks
Well I give the Vitiligo story more credibility than I did before. You can see the discolorations of vitiligo all over Joe's face. What a miserable excuse for a human being. please die. now.
I_b_hatin
Isn't there some way of giving the kids to Lisa Marie Presley?
I know she's all Scientologied up, but if anyone knows what the kids are going through, it's her, AND she used to be married to their dad! She seems like the best option.
We - are young but getting old before our time
We'll leave the TV and the radio behind
Don't you wonder what we'll find
Steppin' out tonight
he sounds completely wasted. and soft in the head. and he is pure evil
So the fucking funeral still isn't "fixin' t'happen?" Not "extablished" yet or something? What is this?
Cold. I hope some of the conspirisists see his father and think long and hard about those closest to MJ.
Section426
I think the pressure is getting to Joe, He seems confused by the end of the clip and someone is feeding him lines as well.
Anto103
@CassetteLove: I'm glad to hear that. I'm still concerned that Joe Jackson will attempt to assert control over the kids and the situation in general, as it is in his best financial interest to do so. And that seems to be his main motivation.
And also, her age is very scary. I've heard how "young-feeling" she is and how "energetic" she is but it is still unrealistic to assume she will survive another 11 years until the 7 year old is 18.
Scout 3.0
Sharpton to the right of me, Joker Jesse Jackson to the left, here I am stuck in the middle of Poo!
Martiniman
@CaptainFantastic: The weird thing is that MJ would rather be thought of as a pedophile (which he was quite open about) than a gay man (which he was not).
Kitten_Witawip
Are they really going to go to him?
Daddy Scariest
1.1.1.
BTW, Mr. Lawson? You forgot to use the "cockroaches" tag.
Scout 3.0
@Scout 3.0: Katherine and Joe haven't lived together in decades; she has an estate in California, he lives in Vegas.
The problem with giving them to Katherine is that grandma is 79 yo.
@soonbanned:
right on.
@LeeroySpitzer: Probably not the doctor but AEG who reportedly hired him.
Scout 3.0
It seems to me like every has been star in America sees a chance to get back in the limelight and is jumping in to offer some kind of tribute to MJ.
@CaptainFantastic: Yeah, unless Debbie Rowe or the nanny fights for custody. Also, there's the will. It may have some direction about the guardianship of the kids although I don't think those instructions are legally binding. Media reports have said that the kids want to stay with their grandparents but I don't put too much weight on that since their grandparents could have manipulated them to say that (Example: Elian Gonzales).
Scout 3.0
Read the family is prepping for a multi-million dollar lawsuit against the doctor.
@SelbyNoser: At least part, if not all, of the reason he was (allegedly) a pedophile was his father's fault.
@Scout 3.0: So he can fuck up the grandkids like he did Michael. The cycle continues.
@CaptainFantastic: I found it on FoxNews. You have to watch an ad before the video, but it's less than 1 minute into the actual video (9:23 left).
Right as Joe stops laughing, Sharpton is saying how the family is still mourning.
@CoffeyWasHere: ALSO - how can Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton be OK standing next to this guy throughout all this buffoonery?! Fuck! Hopefully it's just out of respect for Michael and not for this weasel.
CoffeyWasHere
So many of the people I have heard interviewed about Jackson's death have taken their time live on CNN to promote their own piece of shit companies (Susan Blond managed to promote her public relations firm while discussing her memories of Jackson with Larry King - but then what to expect from a fucking P.R. person).
If I was one of the journalists there I would have asked Jackson's father if that was the right time to promote his record company - and then made that the lead of my story. These entertainment hacks are absolutely ballless.
soonbanned
I hope Mike's ghost drags this crazy old fuck straight to Hades via an angry, spectral moonwalk.
I also like how he talks about Blu-Ray like it's a distribution company unto itself. Dude has no idea what he is talking about!
And him and that other weirdo grifter that he "extablished" the record company with dress like pimps! What the fuck is wrong with this guy?!!
I know, I know. He's always been a piece of shit, but it's still shocking to see such callous ridiculousness at such a time.
CoffeyWasHere
@Scout 3.0: Yes, that is believed to be true although to my knowledge it has not been said point blank. Jackson's attorneys all but confessed it during Debbie Rowe's custody hearing several years ago, though. That shouldn't matter though, he has been the acting parent for their entire lives. It will be interesting to see what his will says.
Scout 3.0
@Jackiewsu: We were discussing that in another thread. The problem is that Katherine Jackson wants them and neither Janet nor any of the other kids will go against their mom. So that inhuman slimeball of a husband will have access to the kids and control of MJs estate and financial matters. It's an absolute tragedy.
Scout 3.0
@Scout 3.0: Isn't there talk that the kids aren't actually biologically his? It sounds just weird enough to be true.
It's hard for me to not feel badly for Michael when I hear this asshole. Even though he may/may not have been a pedophile , no one deserves to be treated like their parent's personal piggie bank.
Bah, alliteration.
SelbyNoser
@Aatom: If only my son could have lived to see me exploit his death...
Kitten_Witawip
To some degree, Michael's actions have left his kids in his parents hands by default. MJ purposely became the sole parent of his kids and jealously guarded their affection from others (including Debbie Rowe). Now that he's gone, there isn't another parent out there for them to go to...
Scout 3.0
Colonel Tom Parker lives.
@Scout 3.0: Damn Joe. Can Janet raise the kids or something.
Is there earlier video of him laughing with someone off camera while Sharpton was speaking? I'll make a cursory look on Youtube.
Listening to him mumble about Blu-Ray is kind of like listening to my 94 year old grandmother rave about how ingenious floppy discs are about 25 years after their advent. Joe hasn't picked a winner since 1966 when the J5 debuted.. since then all he's been up to is grooming that creepy hairline mustache.
The biggest news there- in the 5 minutes or sow the dow went down 3 points.
TVAddendum
The man's been selling his family his entire life. It's all he knows.

It's sad that my son had to die before I could get my record label off the ground?
Are you freaking kidding me with this clown? And MJ's children might live with this creep?
What a repugnant human being.

And he and his wife want the kids and the MJ estate with all of the merchandising rights.
