I don't think he is arrogant. Other contestants and people who actually know him say that he is a super nice guy. I think he is just being honest about his experiences and the life he's led, which is in contrast to those artists whose every move and image change is plotted and planned out for them by a team of PR people.
Overall, I thought it really showed us the human side he has never claimed to be perfect or desire to be some saintly paragon of virtue to be put on a pedestal, the fact that he has faced a lot of insecurities, made mistakes and struggled through a lot of trying to find himself and figuring out who he wants to be, everyone goes through that, everyone, the journey may not be exactly like Adam's but it's a struggle for most people. The fact that he is so comfortable with who he is now and willing to put himself out there so
completely despite the ridicule and irrational hatred that he has faced from a lot of corners is pretty amazing.

@rockandhardPL: I've only watched American Idol once - this season's finale, with my mom - and one of the first things I noticed is that he has terrible skin under all that makeup.

Not sure what came first, though - the heavy makeup or the bad skin. Isn't he really into theater in his "real" life? Stage makeup is heavy; it can mess up your skin pretty badly.
