The Prime Minister And The Parrot

Our esteemed Prime Minister has managed to anger one of the radio world’s most successful self-important arseholes, the inimitable Alan Jones, during a ritzy shindig at Parliament House the other night.

Reports SMH:

Alan Jones must have been thrilled to see the Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, making his way towards him at a cocktail function he was MC’ing at Parliament House on Wednesday night – until the PM opened his mouth to greet the radio host.

Rudd and Wayne Swan made a special appearance at drinks before the launch of the Prostate Cancer Foundation’s DVD guide to men confronting the issue, of which both Swan and Jones have experience. But we can only speculate as to what flashed through the mind of Jones when Rudd smiled widely and greeted him as “the Parrot”. It is unclear exactly how Jones earned the moniker, but it is widely understood to be a most hated nickname.

It’s rather wrong that I find myself enjoying the fact Kevin Rudd is pissing off Alan Jones at a prostate-related do, isn’t it?

Anyway, turns out Alan Jones doesn’t like being called The Parrot – my god, I smell fisticuffs!

Our man in the room reports that Jones remained unruffled.

Oh. That’s disappointing. Goddammit, I wanted this story to end in a blood feud.
