Rebecca Gibney: WINNER
Our incredibly belated Logies coverage continues…. I’d like to extend my personal congratulations to Rebecca Gibney for winning the coveted Gold Logie for her role as the matriarch in Packed To The Rafters. But was that really the role that earned her the most important award presented during Australian Television’s Night Of Nights™?
I have a theory about this, you see. Much like the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences tends to award Oscars for work that may not actually deserve critical kudos in order to make up for previous ceremonial snubbings (see Denzel Washington’s Best Actor for Training Day), I think it’s fairly obvious that Rebecca Gibney’s Gold Logie win last night was an attempt by TV Week readers to right an earlier wrong – yes, looking Rebecca Gibney over many moons ago when she was playing a far more dramatic and emotionally taxing role.
Ahem. It was quite difficult locating footage of Rebecca Gibney’s time portraying Tracy Lawson on Channel Nine’s acclaimed drama of yesteryear ‘All Together Now’, but thankfully the show was a smash in West Germany (where it was renamed Rock ‘n Roll Daddy) so at least there’s some footage of the program up on YouTube. Sure, Rebecca’s now delivering the theatrical goods in German now, but who cares?
