Rapper Murdered At LA Shopping Mall

Dolla, a 21 year-old Atlanta rapper signed to Akon’s label, was shot and killed yesterday in the parking garage of an LA mall.

According to his publicist:

But Vannasing said Burton apparently had a dispute with some people, perhaps at the airport.

“They followed him to the mall because they knew he was coming,” Vannasing said. She added that Burton was at the mall with another rapper, D.J. Shabbazz.

He was shot in the head while he stood near the Beverly centre entrance with several other men. The shots sent diners at nearby restaurants scrambling. Police have detained a suspect, but haven’t given their version of what happened.

Dolla was rightly described as up and coming. He’d signed to Akon’s label, recorded tracks with Lil Wayne, and even modeled for P. Diddy’s clothing line. R.I.P.

@hypocriteoath: Not even close. The tear is for when you have lost someone. However, you are quite the asshole. If someone shoots you in the head at a mall, I'm presuming it wouldn't be a huge loss neither.

@BookishLookish: O.J.'s murder weapon! He was there with zombie Robert Kardashian.

In another era, the coroner would have put coins over the rapper's eyes upon confirming his death. And that would have been for pennies on the Dolla.

This may be the only time in history the word "victim" has been associated with the Beverly Center without the word "fashion" in front of it.

All this doesn't change the fact that Akon is a talentless hack. He's the Dane Cook of rap.

50 Cent isn't half the rapper Dolla was. What a tragedy.

Did anyone drop a Dolla just outside the Beverly Center?

Someone clearly put a price on his head. Which is good, because now we'll know the true value of the Dolla.

Thanks for reminding me how much I like toast, Dolla.

    look_lookatme

  • hypocriteoath

the tear on his face means he either murdered someone or is a poser who pretended to have murdered someone. So he is either a murderer or someone who wanted others to THINK he was a murderer. Because of that, not a huge loss.

    @BookishLookish: beats?

Fuckin' rappers. Can't they stick to dope & gettin' laid?

@Our Lady of the Massacre: Dolla's culture doesn't give a shit what you think. People usually act rationally. Understand the reasons before you mount the pulpit.

  • Mymoustache

I wonder where "lying face down in a pool of your own blood outside a Forever 21" sits on the defending your honor scale.

  • moochyshuckworth

@Our Lady of the Massacre: I agree and it really is sad. In Dayton Ohio (where I live) we have had an increased amounts of gang violence and shootings - with people being shot at vigils and funerals, even an AK 47 attack at a basketball court. it is just pointless.

    moochyshuckworth

  • Our Lady of the Massacre

@son of spam: Yeah, that's exactly the kind of excuse I'm tired of hearing. That's the same mentality that gets girls in Third World countries stoned to death for holding hands with a guy. It's a useless belief system that serves only to get innocent people killed.

  • son of spam

@Our Lady of the Massacre: When all you have is your honor, you defend it to the death.

  • mattchew03

Fittingly, his first single was titled ""Who the Fuck Is That?"

  • Our Lady of the Massacre

What's the point of violence like this? I wonder if the murderer feels justified. Did he "defend his rep" or "settle the score" or any of those other ridiculous honor culture excuses you sometimes hear linked with crimes like this? Or what is a gang thing? Either way, this young man did NOT have to die.

  • Disco-Johnson

This is the final straw. I'm going to start on a "Rappers Quilt".

@exo: R.O.A.C.H.: Yes, Wikipedia, edited mainly by bored white people is the preeminent destination to have gang tats explained. Rather than, you know, actually working with disadvantaged teens, who generally do not head to Wikipedia to 'set the record straight'. At any rate, Dolla's father committed suicide in front of him and his sister. Perhaps this tear isn't representative of that particular killing, but this kid has been in the rap game since he was 12. Don't think he was the gang-affiliated killer type.

@Paul_Is_Drunk: Listen. I simply stated that disrepect is treated differently by inner city black males than the self-important smarty-pants (including me) who comment on Gawker. I'm not getting into details in this forum, but I know what I'm talking about on the subject.

I wasn't really looking for the third degree and I certainly was defending the murder of anyone as an acceptable solution to a problem. But I'm not going to take shit from moustache or some asshole bandwagon-jumping noob from Boston.

  • exo: R.O.A.C.H.

@ae38: Um, no, your wrong too - you have totally over simplified the "tear tattoo".

    Wikipedia:
The teardrop tattoo or tear tattoo is a symbolic tattoo that is placed underneath the eye. The tattoo has several connotations. Teardrop tattoos usually signify the loss of a friend or loved one. Often, for a male, the tattoo is given to represent the death of a brother.[citation needed] An empty tear signifies that the loved one has been killed or that the bearer has unsuccessfully attempted murder.[1] A filled tattoo signifies that a loved one has taken his or her own life, or was killed by a cause other than murder (car crash, death penalty, etc.) A tear with an empty top and a full bottom means that the wearer has avenged the murder of a loved one. The majority of the 'tear tattoos' seen in popular culture today, however, signify that the wearer has killed, with the number of tears representing the number of kills.[1]

See the word "majority"? Thats what hypocriteoath would be referring too.

@Mymoustache: Just above getting gang raped in the disney store, but just below being curb stomped in the food court. (those potted plants can really take a hit!)

  • exo: R.O.A.C.H.

@son of spam: I have to agree with son of spam here. I personally don't have any sympathy for someone who chooses to embed themselves in a culture that embraces killing as a solution and as a sign of respect. I don't know what type of rap this particular guy sang, although it wouldn't be a stretch to assume it was all about money (his name alone insinuates this), respect, and street life. I don't see sympathizers for other people whom choose to embrace cultures that glorify killing.

@ae38: well I guess my street cred just went to zero for not correctly understanding the semantics of face tattoos. Thankfully, the worst thing that can happen to me in this "game" is that I get excecuted and resur-erect myself.

  • MelitaPolyhymnia

we all created this tragedy. we all glorified money and it's trappings and of course the young rapper world wanted "in" to the money game. why do they shoot their own? jealously? what happens when the shooters child gets murdered? payback? when is this gonna end? when is the glorification of violence going to stop? anyone know what the cost of treating "uninsured" gun-shot victims costs our government? then add on the 24 hour police protection afforded this victim so the shooter does not show up at the hospital bed to "finish" the job. an incredible drain on already stressed resources. this shooting has wider societal nuances than many seem to see. it is a culmination af a culture hone wild. see how many connections you can make.

  • britneyspearstears

@son of spam: Respect and Honor or, lack thereof are pretty universal themes amongst people of all skin tone, salary, and geography. We all handle it differently.

We don't know the whole story, but there is some speculation about a girl. If this is true: Are you saying "Dolla's culture" are more inclined than other cultures to murder as a reaction of heartbreak?

    Didn't think so.

  • exo: R.O.A.C.H.

@ae38: I used that because it is sourcable I'm a tattooist you dumbfuck.
