Edwyn Collins – Home Again
Many music loving readers would be aware of Edwyn Collins. He was the frontman of Scottish band Orange Juice, and had massive solo success in the nineties with his song ‘A Girl Like You’. What you may not know is that Edwyn suffered several strokes in 2005.
A documentary was made about his recovery by the BBC called “Home Again” and it’s tremendously moving viewing. Thanks to YouTube, you can watch it below.
The documentary mentions the fact Edwyn, a former illustrator, learned to draw with his left hand as part of his recovery. You can take a look at the British Bird Life exhibition he produced over at The Guardian.
And here’s the single he released a few years after his stroke. It’s wonderful.
As we spend our work days feverishly consuming tales of wannabes lying on camera about witnessing shootings and radio stars fighting on Twitter, I think it’s incredibly important to make a little time in our busy schedules to take in stories of inspiration and courage and love.

thanks for posting this Jess.
I’ve been a big fan of Edwyn and his music since the early days of OJ. Iheard about the documentary but the chances of it being shown here are slim at best.

Jess, your defamer mix is like a great cappuccino: just the right amount of froth and substance.
