Chris Hemsworth Wins Role In Blockbuster (And Taylor Swift’s Heart)

Although I horribly stated yesterday Ajay Rochester (remember her? She used to be the host of The Biggest Loser…) isn’t likely to end up on the ever-growing list of Aussies Who Done Good overseas (I AM SORRY, FRIEND OF AJAY!), one name we probably can safely add to the names of expats whose careers we heartily embrace is former Home & Away actor Chris Hemsworth.

A swoonworthy turn in the latest Star Trek movie has led to Chris landing a couple of plum roles.

The former Home And Away heartthrob, 25, from Victoria’s Phillip Island, was told this week he won the title role in director Kenneth Branagh’s Marvel Comics adaptation of Thor. He reportedly auditioned for the part against his younger brother Liam, among others, and James Bond star Daniel Craig, who knocked it back.

Hemsworth’s Australian rep Mark Morrissey confirmed the news to Confidential yesterday, adding it was only two years since Hemsworth first moved to Hollywood to try his luck. The good news follows Friday’s announcement that Hemsworth has also secured the lead role in the Tom Cruise co-produced Red Dawn remake.

Bravo! And ooooh, guess who else is impressed by Mr Hemsworth’s talents?

And while we think Chris is single, this may not be for long with country music breakout Taylor Swift writing a Twitter about him this week. “My Star Trek favourite – Chris Hemsworth,” she wrote while watching the film with her band.

Although my limited knowledge of Taylor Swift leads me to believe Chris won’t actually be able to “tap that” until marriage, it’s still a nice boost for the ego. Go for it, sir. Go forth and prosper.
