2009 Is Really Not Ajay Rochester’s Year

Things have not been going Ajay Rochester’s way lately, have they? Finding out she’s just been dumped as host of Channel Ten’s weight loss extravaganza The Biggest Loser is just the cherry on top of an awful year.

A brief recap of Ajay’s recent woes.

- Narrowly avoiding a conviction for welfare fraud.

- Accused by self-confessed NRL groupie Charmyne Palavi of angrily refusing a free gift bag.

- Which seems somewhat out of character given Ajay’s love of free things.

- She’s had to call the cops on a tabloid journalist who turned up on her front door.

- And she was dropped by her management.

What next for Ajay? Certainly not using the expression “it’s time to cut the fat” in the near future.

Channel Ten has parted ways with controversial Biggest Loser host Ajay Rochester and is looking for someone new to helm the weight-loss reality show. “We’ve had a couple of really good years, but we’ve decided to go in a different direction,” a Channel Ten spokesperson told news.com.au.

Channel Ten’s different direction obviously involves finding hosts with charisma.

Rumours were rife Rochester would not return to host the 2010 season of Biggest Loser after her management agency of three and a half years, Mark Morrissey, dropped her last week. The larger-than-life blonde said it was because she “currently (has) no Australian commitments and am just focusing on my projects in the US”.

One can’t help but wonder what is waiting for Ajay in the US. I don’t want to be a player hater, but I’m not envisioning her joining the ranks of Cate Blanchett, Eric Bana, or even free-spirited Isabel Lucas as an Aussie Who Done Good overseas.

Alison Braun, a nation of viewers awaits your charming presence on our screens.

Are you a happy person? I can’t see how you possibly could be happy when you spend your days writing immature and bitchy crap about people and situations you clearly know nothing about. If only you could find out the truth or back up your ’sources’ before you spat your dribble all over the web page. But I guess its quicker and takes far less effort or intelligence to write this rubbish!!

      Loyalty is admirable,
      but defence need not be so offensive;
      also, immaturity and bitchiness
undermine accusations of immaturity and bitchiness.
      N’est-ce pas?

She is a convicted criminal. She should have been sacked back then and the job given to someone who abides by the law and has more personality. Channel TENS actions by not sacking her when she was convicted, seem to suggest that they condone persons who commit criminal acts, so long as the ratings are good.

  • It seems odd that anyone would visit a gossip site and then complain that it’s all just gossip.

Anyways, I won’t miss Ajay. Though she did a fine job, it wasn’t anything particularly impressive, and almost anybody else could do the same or better.

Someone with a bit of zing or a sense of humour, instead of distant dour pronouncements, perhaps. Though that may be the fault of the format…

  • Tara

Or, channel 10 knew the actual facts and therefore chose not to fire her. Clearly you are another one who does not know the facts.

    • captain dagnon

Sweetheart, if you’re so indignant with our apparently wanton adherence to the ‘facts’ in this piece, then why don’t you actually shed some light on the situation?

pierluigi summed it up pretty well, but seriously, if you think Jess’ posts are bitchy, you 1) mustn’t come on this site very often, and 2) have never read a gossip blog from the likes of the States…plenty more bloggers out there are far more vicious. It’s pretty hard to maintain a moral high ground on a gossip blog, but i reckon jess does alright.

lay off the name-calling until you can back up your comments.

It’s hardly Ajay’s fault that she is unable to show her humour on TBL. Sadly, it’s way too scripted and anyone who takes the place of her will have the same problem.

I do believe that the media and the public need to give her some slack. She wasn’t convicted and she paid a whole lot of money back. She’s been through a lot in her life, and in the public eye, which must be hard for her too.

She’s made mistakes, but but no one is perfect. And people are forgetting all the good things that Aja has done. She is an amazing ambassador for weight loss and is continuesly helping people acheive their best.

I think it’s a big mistake that channel 10 is making, considering that anyone who replaces her on TBL is going to have the same scripted, repeatative words and tone of voice. Thus, like any other show that changes hosts, sadly it’s unlikely that the show will last in ratings. There is no better hosts than the one that started with the show.

    • knw

Sadly, I have to agree about the format of TBL. The scripted, repetitive tripe has got to go. It is becoming a real problem on Master Chef too, which is basically the same show, just about cooking. Flippin’ template formats suck. Can’t channel ten do something a bit more exciting with these shows, they have potential, but end up just being annoying. Not a fan of Ajay’s in the least, but she makes for great parodies with her monotonous repetition.

  • Jodes

I couldn’t stand her as a host because she had no warmth or personality in her style. That speaking voice! UGH, wooden as hell. If she’s going to go off to the USA, Ajay needs to take some time out to do some proper training presentation and work on those issues. Home shopping network is likely the only thing in her future – it’ll suit her cheap and hard looking exterior.

The news that Ajay was leaving is really old news so is the name of the person who is going to take over, i’m not going to spoil it by telling you but i have known for 6 to 8 weeks and yes you will all love her. Can’t we just say thank you to Ajay and wish her and her son well

    • knw

Wow, you’ve got the lowdown. Hoo-ee for you. What’s the point in saying that you’ve known for 6-8 weeks if you’re not going to tell who it is. Just blowing your own trumpet sounds like to me. Like the old chat room days.

Funny… cos no one knows who you are.

  • Far out, an Ajay furore? Who’d a thunk this would be such an emotive issue. And to think that no one is pointing out that Ajay’s size increases via some zero-sum relation to the contestants shrinking. That’d be bitchy.

  • Tara

Ok, so maybe i went a bit far. I do apologise. But i have known the lady for a long time and when i came across this article this morning it completely pissed me off! She is actually a wonderful person whose true talent has not been seen because of the scripted nature of her job. Hopefully now the world will get a glimpse of the real woman and give her a bit of a break!

  • Becj

There was speculation during biggest loser 2009 on the official BL website-forum section that AJ was departing and would be replaced by Alison.

Aren’t all the ‘reality shows’ scripted?

  • Steph

How will AJ afford her perma-orange tan now?

  • graham.lv

If she is a convicted criminal, how is she going to obtain entry to the United States?

    • I don’t believe she was convicted, folks.

“In January Rochester, who has a son with Asperger’s syndrome, was acquitted of 23 counts of Centrelink welfare fraud.”

      • Abby.

        Graham is correct.

  • Anna

If anybody saw her appearence on Good News Week a few weeks ago you might understand why she got dropped from TBL. It was the most desgusting sight I have ever seen. She was bagging out contestants from the show and saying just how great she is ‘because she’s already lost 40kg and she did it herself’ but she was a disgrace to the show.

    • cid

I have to agree with Anna, her GNW was a pathetic attempt to be funny, but really shat on the show, no surprise she was dumped! and agree with the comments on format of TBL, hope the new person spices it up a bit. I don’t really need to “recap” after an ad break!

  • helga

What a bunch of nasty people! Who are obviously perfect! Ajay did a great job , we will miss her and wish her well in the future! The rest of you whingers need to get a life and turn off the telly sometimes!

  • Sunny

highly amusing comments from people who don’t even know her real background and the actual truth. Her obsession with Oprah began a long time ago and seems its now manifesting itself along with all the other bullshit she always used to get ‘noticed’.Sad you all paid her way.

  • Sunny

Oh and ‘Tara’…..I’ve known her a lot longer than you and her ‘talent’ wasn’t truth.
